July - the month of hell (huge thanks to Cate for organising this month's summary post and to Sabrina, Claudie, Kassie, and Bri for helping her write it)
Elle Abercrombie is hard at work laying the foundation of her trap with Evan Rosier, and speaking of sneaky, the Marauders discuss sending Petey in animal form to rat out (ahaha) suspected death eaters, though in a previous test run at the Malfoy's, Narcissa noticed some animals. Mary decides to move and not tell anyone in the Order.
While it all started out with a game, Tabby Pryce tries to bait Marlene, and ends up kidnapping her (with the help of Marius) just after her shift. After some chewing, she is left near her parents' home, where she's found by James and Lily on patrol. Lily alerts those closest to Marlenefirst and James checks up on Meg before alerting the entire Order. Tabby brags and fires up Agnes, and the two agree to meet for a fight. Severus, Benjy, and Fenrir get involved, and Snape ends up rescuing Agnes while leaving Benjy to fight the werewolves (with silver spoons).
A crow arrives at the Ministry accusing Agnes O'Hare of using an unforgivable. Alice says she'll deal with it, though no one suspects when she summons Agnes and Severus that Alice would actually report Agnes's unforgivable. Agnes informs Aberforth, who in turn informs the Order and a few others. While agonising over whether she's done the right thing, Alice asks for written statements, which will hopefully lighten Agnes's predicted life-sentence in Azkaban. Marlene and Mary subsequently fret.
In equally cheerful news, Tabby and Fenrir murder children in Mary's name, which the Daily prophet reports on - making sure that anyone who wasn't aware of Mary MacDonald before is now. Fenrir also makes sure that Severus knows that he saw him with Agnes.
Mary decides that she has had too much of the angst and thinks that sparkles will help everyone keep their mind off the problems. It doesn't really help -- what, with Mary making a comment that makes Narcissa's mafia come forth and has a greatdealoftheOrder upset. And in need of some drinks.
Fenrir takes Mary's suggestion to do what makes him happy, which, unfortunately, includes killing children.
Meanwhile Elle continues to work on her trap, but has some explaining to do with Gumby. Frank and Alice have to be serious about their involvement in both the Order and the Auror office. Things go well for the Order during their first training sessions.
Dumbledore arranges to meet with Mary and offers Hogwarts as a safe stronghold.
Betty had Smith pegged as a twelve minute man at least! Pepper reminds Croaker to eat. And on the other end of the social scale, Narcissa and Persephone plan for tea and Severus and Astra discuss tea already taken. Meanwhile, Aquila tells Severus of his plans to be a hair stylist and Barty critiques Muggle literature (!?)
Fabian and Moody discuss the possibility of Pepper in the Order. Narcissa sends invitations to the fabulous birthday party of the esteemed Regulus Black who is busy becoming a perfect Death Eater by training with Evan Rosier. Gladys ponders the next proper move to further her relationship with Gilderoy. And Mary tries inspirational quotes and potions.
And then? All hell breaks loose. Or rather the threat of it. Some wonder how such a wizard might be chosen, or inkblot. There's a prediction (statement of fact?) from Rufus, and some seduction from Elle, orders from Rufus, and all around general intrigue. Ice cream before ass kicking, with a few f-words on the side. But who cares about the Minister of Magic's ultimatum, when your best friend is seeingsomeone? Or you could try the run and hide approach. But The Great Sirius Black waxes eloquent on culture, but Potter says we simply need to outbreed them or maybe just erode them? It does not matter to news man Smith who will no doubt keep busy (but not with breeding), whatever the end result. (Possibly with writing letters to the advice column? Or demanding retractions when it turns out you didn't write it...)
Rodolphus posts lists of people who are on his bad side, which worries Sev on Lily's behalf.
Death Eaters cannot have time turners - kay guys? But they can has bets and also battles for the Dark Lord's Wonderous Cause. But the Death Eaters do not get all the fun, MWPP can has bets too!
Where Moody is concerned, Veritaserum is the name of the game, so truth telling and kidnapping are in store for Pepper. And Remus wonders if they've won.
Crouch Sr is grumpy. Mary checks in on Moody at St. Mungos and lets the Order know that he's awake. Alice feels a moment of regret, as does Elle even if Kate does not really feel too badly that two more Death Eaters are dead. Meaghan cancels her party and Narcissa cancels Regulus's. Dedalus is simply glad the Order did not lose anyone. Peter strikes up a friendly conversation with Anzhelina.
Even among dark times, one can play guess the sentence or matchmake. The latter is particularly important when one is down two Purebloods. Meanwhile, Aquila and Marius anti-matchmake. And the Match-make-ees find the entire thing uncomfortable. Elder Death Eaters have a tradition of being cryptic, and it seems Dolohov will not break it.
Welcome the new Joni Mitchell, but don't expect her to concert during the day. Meanwhile Pepper is simply annoyed that he will have no use for his left overhair and blood. Moody updates, the Order rejoices, but it may not be quite so easy to bounce back from this battle. Dorcas does her part to cheer the world by Episode 1 of stick figure happenings. And Zoo-Times are had by the Bell's and the Tonks'. Mary is learning potions.
Andromeda thinks they knew what they were signing up for. Dolohov finds the deaths troubling. Mary wonders if ignorance is bliss. Barty finds it's not so easy to deal with death when it's your friends. And MacNair calls hypocrisy. Frank & Moody meet to discuss DMLE business.
But all is not gloom and doom for it is Jo's birthday! Which of course means owls and good food!!
Meanwhile Carlotta is sassy. Hestia waxes philosophical. And Peter is (thank Merlin!) still employed. Worshipful Gilderoy is worshipful (of the Longbottoms that is), and Benjy and Gideon decide to bring Aberforth on board with their diabolical Ravenclaw plans.
Agnes is getting out soon and Severus wants to help, but manages to argue with Lily instead while Marlene takes suggestions from the peanut gallery on how to catch Agnes up.
Aeneas discusses the height of fashion and the trials and tribulations of the upper class murderer while Benjy selectively shares plans to infiltrate the Lestrange Library. Gilderoy Lockhart tries to get us to open our hearts to squibs and Marlene silently panics about Dorcas deciding to be friends with Tabby. Atticus & Aquila flee the country after being named as Death Eaters, leaving young Astra behind to in the care of the Lestranges. Dorcas educates people with her magnificent manhood magnifier - perhaps Severus can take note as he comforts the young Miss Avery. Pepper warns Moody about who has been named as Frank worries. Jeremiah muses on the gag order and freedom of press; speaking of freedom, Astra assures people she's quite alright. Mary and Barty both scribble privately, Astra considers moving out and Elle is miffed about the lack of leads on the Averies.
On the lighter side of things, Severus is in love and Jeremiah finally gets to write his story. Regulus complains about Druellas suggestion and the state of the Death Eater soap opera while Aquila reminds us that everything is better in France and Mary addresses some personal problems. Pepper proves his abilities with off-the-cuff remarks while Marlene & Clara battle for best photographer.
On Jo's advice, Benjy breaks into the Lestrange library with Gideon, which proves to be disasterous. Oh look - Benjybits!
There's mischief afoot with as Bellatrix sends Mary a poison pie, supposedly from Damocles. Luckily, she thanks him, but doesn't eat it. In light of the recent tragedy, Narcissa cancels Regulus' birthday party in favour of a family dinner. Nothing could possibly happen in their homes, right?
Astra makes a public plea and Marlene privately gets upset and posts a little poetry. Fabian answers questions and assures people he's safe while his brother says a big fuck you to the Lestranges and tries to stay out of trouble. The werewolves of London better watch out this month, as the Department of Magical Law Enforcement kick some furry behind when they try to attack. Pepper reports his victory and Agnes finds out the joys of censorship. Marlene promptly appeals on her behalf.
Regulus muses on his horrible luck with birthdays and Beth warns people and expresses her concern over Agnes' time in the big house.
Assigned to be the parole officer on Agnes's case, Elladora also hates on censorship and has a few choice words about Crouch Senior; Moody is just as surprised as she is. Following the big battle in which the DMLE kicked werewolf tail, several outraged civilians post some good, old-fashioned hate-mongering grassroots protesting, urging the Ministry and civilians to stop letting the wolves come to the door, as it were. Fliers (and owls from concerned parents) are sent to the Ministry, posters go up in Diagon Alley and very uppity retired Auror, Caspar Crouch (father of everyone's favourite friendly, neighborhood DMLE head), has himself a protest outside of Grindylow Gardens, whereupon he gets the Hitwizards called for disturbing the peace at eight AM, gets arrested for being uppity and uncooperative, and thoroughly embarrasses his grandson. Back at the Ministry, swamped in paperwork Ted is swamped in paperwork.
While still an issue of discussion amongst the Order, Pepper talks to certain vigilantes in his attempts to clean up after Gid and Fab. Following Grady's anti-werewolf editorial, the man himself is scared of repercussions, which currently come to him in the form of presents from Fenrir. (NOTE: THE OWL IS HIGHLY SQUICKY; CLICK AT YOUR OWN PERIL.) Sev and Gummy are both fed up with death, but handle it in very different ways: Sev gets practical and opens the Baby DE Dueling Wednesdays up to the Somewhat Older Baby DEs, while Gummy just wants it to be Saturday again, which gets him terrorised by Tabby and Clara, gets him inquired after by Deddums and Marlene, and lets all the Hitwizards see Mill on painkillers. While Frank and Moody talk about Pepper, Al follows Mill's drugged up orders and puts his family into protective custody and Elle worries about Al and Kate.
Andromeda is disappointed that Cissy didn't accept her condolences, but, of the Black brothers, only Sirius cares. Cissy's busy anyway, since her recently deceased cousin, Evan, has left his money in a trust for her firstborn and she needs Lucius to keep it safe. Unlike the Blacks, the DMLE shows a remarkable ability to stick together: granted, Betty makes it easy by admitting in an article that the DMLE isn't entirely incompetent, but there's a lot of law-enforcement love to go around. Kate looks out for Elle and talks to Pepper about his vigilante investigation, then goes and asks Alice about the same thing. Pepper and Frank talk about what the former brings to the latter's vigilante table (then talks about the talk with Alice, Moody, and Albus), and Pepper tends to his BFF Mill.
Leaving work at Slug and Jiggers leaves Marlene with plenty of time to suggest Order meetings, snark with Sirius and Remus (Professor Lupin has a very nice ring to it!), and ask Riley out for drinks. Hestia's birthday brings no major change, but plenty of cake! All is not well for Julianne Wilkes, who spends her first post reminiscing about her recently deceased sister (and getting Dolph to be nice), and it's similarly unwell for Dorian Brooks, who gets educated on the nature of the journals, and for the werewolves, since more propaganda goes up around Diagon. Rabbit's not feeling that happy about his birthday being so soon after his father's death (though, apparently, Abe, Pepper, and Antonin feel well enough to chat about chickens and eggs), and Alana spends her first post announcing the funeral arrangements for her dearly departed brother. Nicholas Harrow announces the presence of more vampires and Bella-boo announces that she has plans for Aquila, while Reg and Julianne bond over grieving and Al and Deddums bond over drinks.
Alice has a schedule for everyone in the Order, Crouch Senior has had it with these snakes this tomfoolery in his DMLE, and Catriona McCormack has a sense of impending doom, but can all that really hold a candle to the enormous importance of Regulus Black's eighteenth birthday? While he prepares the eulogy for his father, Reg gets presents aplenty from Severus, Marius, Bella-boo, Julianne, Cissy (and Lucius), and Astra too. Even Aquila sends something to the birthday boy, despite his exile in France, and naturally Reg-o-Pine's BFF wouldn't miss Reg's special day (even if his gift fails). The big surprise comes from Sirius, who sends Reg a very nice gift, thus prompting Reg to emo it up once more.
Naturally, though, people have lives outside of Regulus's birthday. Pepper, for example, wants to know why the vigilantes are taking their sweet time to give him an answer. He manages to take his mind off things, though, by getting Ted a forged certificate of baptism so baby Katie Bell will have a nice, respectable godfather. Severus is fairly busy too, for that matter: after his Occlumency training session with Bella, he has a moment alone with Astra, and then gets warned off precious, Pureblood pretties by Marius. Cissy is still in awe at what Evan left her, and Druella attempts to cheer her youngest up with talk of good omens. Even Reg's BFF Barty has a life outside of Reg's birthday: first he ponders careers and decides to become a Healer, then he has to answer to his father and Aloysius and Pepper about said career choice, and then the Saint Mungo's brigade comes out in the form of Beth, Antonin, and Hestia wishing Barty good luck and Andromeda using him to get a happy birthday wish to Regulus, which Barty forwards like a good boy. It sure is a tough life, being Regulus Black.
The Ministry's gag order continues to be a problem for Alice, who can no longer safely ward entries to the Order. Luckily, Dedalus was on the ball, which allowed Alice to tell the Order that the Ministry plans to investigate the Prewett twins' sudden deaths.
In the mean time, Severus tries to assure Astra and comfort her, but she worries nonetheless. Simultaneously, Marius professes his concerns to Aquila. Will Severus and Astra ever get a break? Only time will tell. With more budding romance (or is it?), Alana finds Caradoc- or as she puts it, a ginger- outside her window at twilight.
In revenge for recent events, the Death Eaters plan to teach the Order members and outspoken individuals a lesson. Antonin Dolohov personally pursues the Diggle family in Regent's Park, while Barty Crouch, Jr. follows orders to be brutal, ruthless and unmerciful with the Quinn family - but not before he makes sure to contemplate how utterly stupid his recent journaling actions were.
A little ways away, Rodolphus breaks through the many layers of wards at the McKinnon family house, while Fenrir and Tabby attack the MacDonalds in Cambridge. Travers kills Daniel Meadowes, and Alecto wraps up the evening of attacks by paying the McCormack family at Fell Cottage an unpleasant visit.
Death Eater attack unbeknownst to a sleeping Wizarding Community, newly Obliviated Mary writes her first journal entry, which seems to go oddly unnoticed, while slightly earlier in the evening, Severus seeks out Lily to warn her about her safety. Immediately after, Lily finds James to share recent events. She vows to tell James everything, including run-ins with Severus.
Though the Auror Office is quick to respond to the Dark Marks over the aforementioned families' homes, Barty Crouch Sr is quick to send out impersonal, cold owls to the members of the respective dead families. Kate and Elle immediately go to Regent's Park to investigate the Diggle Crime Scene, and Rodolphus returns home to Bellatrix after the attacks.
Elle quickly wards an entry to Gumboil regarding the Diggles, but Dorcas is the first to receive the news. Marlene is the next to leave a journal entry public -- so much for Remus's sweet thoughts of having a good tomorrow. Gumboil quickly follows up Crouch's owl to Dedalus with a much shorter, yet more meaningful message, and then reflects on the Diggle crime scene with Elle.
Despite their successful murders, all is not well on the Death Eater front. Rodolphus and Corbina receive subpoenas from Rufus to testify in front of the Wizengamot on the 25th. Corbina makes sure Rodolphus gets the message, but he has already seen it, apparently - for he immediately demands to know who spoke to an outsider about Saturday's events.
While the Death Eaters and Supporters scramble to find alibis, Meaghan receives Crouch's owl, only to find out it is her turn to play Mummy. Luckily, Moody and Andie know a thing or two about children and immediately swoop to McCormack's rescue.
It took until morning for Mary to find out about her family. In the mean time, Moody is finally released from St. Mungo's. Moody, Albus, Frank and Alice privately discuss Pepper's potential acceptance into the Order.
Barty Jr. spends his morning trying to figure out who leaked the happenings in the Lestrange Manor, and finally concludes it is Regulus. Meanwhile, James thanks Severus for his concern for Lily, but still puts Snape back in his place. Across town, Moody spends his first Mungo's-free day trying to teach Meaghan a thing or two about crying kids.
Marlene returns to her Whitman poetry books in Godric's Hollow, and Caradoc, Agnes and Sirius try to comfort her. Dorcas, on the other hand, tries to remain put-together, bowing out of work for a family emergency- no further details.
Recent events scare Peter into wanting to return home for a few days, while Regulus' internal guilt eats at him. At the Ministry, Elle jumps on the poetry bandwagon, yet behind wards Kate and Elle try to find the commonalities behind the murders.
Meaghan expresses her anger at Crouch to Alice, while Hestia finally has time to reflect herself. You guessed it! More poetry.
In the meantime, Alice finds herself restricted by the sodding gag order again, but luckily Marlene's journal is open, allowing her to reveal the sum of the prior night's events. Meaghan and Sirius take the opportunity to discuss parenthood. Lily found herself at a loss about what to do with her grieving mates, but takes the time to thank Severus. Dorcas made a public announcement regarding her status and her family, and her composure shocks Marlene.
While the Order is busy discussing, Regulus makes the decision to confess to Rodolphus, who warns the Death Eaters and supporters not to connect the Prewetts' death with the death of their kin. Narcissa soon discovers the truth about Regulus, and speaks to Bellatrix soon after. Regulus, however, is busy with Marius, Lucius and Severus on their mission to poison the water reservoir in preparation for next month's ultimatum.
Magdalene Pepper pops up on the journals for the first time, shocking Narcissa that Octavius has a sister. Severus reflects upon the day's happenings, revealing to Astra that things do not look good for their relationship and freezing hell over with a cordial conversation with James.
At the end of the day, Rileystill doesn't know about her family. Emmeline is quick to ask Pepper what he wants to speak to Riley about, but his intensions are noble. Riley and Pepper meet at a coffee shop, where Pepper tells Riley about the attack on her family.
Kate is not quite as poetic as everyone else, but she does make a note to Elle that her efforts to lift spirits helped make Kate's birthday more enjoyable. Astra continues to struggle to find hope that she and Severus might be able to be together one day, but her tear stains and private entry do not bide weell. Elle sends Kate a late birthday owl.
Lily's buddy system is really code for 'hyper-paranoia," as her wards to the Order members request a list of people to contact in case of grave injury or death. Over at the Athenaeeum Club, Aberforth and Severus have a lengthy discussion about the nature of magic.
Marlene finalizes the funeral plans, though she chooses not to post them publicly, while Alana finds that she actually enjoys Ministry work to at least keep her mind off of things. At Malfoy Manor, Regulus' family birthday dinner proves to be as awkward and uncomfortable as ever, though he is secretly happy Rodolphus can't come!
Caradoc reveals Alana's questioning him, and seeks counsel from the Order on what to tell her, while Corbina informs Bellatrix of her and Rodolphus's detention by the ministry. In the meantime, Emmeline returns home to find Riley missing. She has every intetion to check every Muggle pub in London- if that's even possible!
Severus takes the time to reflect on his beliefs and the recent events, and Severus and Astra dream of their future life together. An extremely worried Emmeline owls Riley, but does not receive a response. Perhaps it is time to go to every Muggle pub? In the meantime, over in Hogsmeade, Aberforth ponders about his meeting with Severus and confides in Moody.
Mary realizes it has been a week since Fabian Prewett died, while Regulus successfully survived the family dinner. At the all-important Order meeting at the Longbottoms' house, the Order votes on whether to ask Pepper to join the Order or not. The meeting was emptier than usual (sans Benjy, Fabian, Gideon and Mary), and tempers rose in heated debates. In the mean time, Riley finally owls someone - Dedalus.
James shares his concerns with the Godric Hollow folks, while Gumboil and Dolohov have lunch (also known as an unofficial therapy session). Marlene finally reaches a breaking point after talking to the Longbottoms, along with Meaghan. Across the country in Cambridge, Mary finds herself questioning recent events again.
Aquila updates from France, and has a heart-wrenching argument with his beloved sister. Over in England, tempers flare again when Betty makes an entry regarding how to deal with grief. Kate decides she is going to have a big party next year for her birthday- if she is still alive, while Alecto seeks counsel from Narcissa and Persephone regarding a job interview.
After keeping her secret for far too long, Astra finally confides in Corbina about her true feelings for "someone improper." Elsewhere, Alana decides to go through Benjy's things, only to find a most curious note from Jo Savage, sent the day before Benjy's death. Will Alana get the answers she so greatly desires? Only time will tell. In the mean time, Anzhelina confides in Peter Pettigrew, whom she enjoys speaking to greatly, and Astra leaves Severus in tears. At the end of the day, it was Moody who revealed to Pepper his acceptance into the Order.
Julianne suggests a tea party for the Pureblood DE socialites and many are happy to accept. There have been far too many funerals and too few frills!
Graley Rosier and Walden MacNair are summoned to the ministry to discuss the night the purists died, but they and the Lestranges are soon released once the ministry realises their stories coincide to a T.
Pepper's first entry to the Order sparks more than a little controversy. Abe spills the beans on the Prewetts' device, so Caradoc and Meg try to come up with a way to get the device back -- but not everyone agrees and things quickly get ugly.
Regulus has to speak with an angry Rodolphus for speaking to Sirius, though he sucks it up and doesn't complain. Meg laments about the frustrations with the Order, but gains a bit more support from Caradoc and Moody. Sirius does some siriusly deep thinking about the Order and the war and himself. Meanwhile Remus and 'Frenchy' have another run in but this time neither of them can try to kill each other -- and Remus gets in trouble for going out alone. Agnes also journals about her extreme frustration about the Order. Meanwhile, Caradoc answers Alana's questions about the Order -- is it possible there is another recruit on hand?
Severus realizes that things are over with Astra and sends her a letter in that respect.
It is Rufus Scrimgeour's birthday and the averagegiftseems to be food -- although Elle slips him a little something else! Rufus thanks everyone the next day
The Marauders have a little drama -- James wonders if Snape going bad was their fault. Things get especially bad between Sirius and Peter. Sirius bails -- until Remus goes after him. Sirius's day doesn't get any better when Regulus decides to send back the birthday present Sirius sent him. There is, of course, more saddness in store for the folks of Godric's Hollow that evening when Ira Potterpasses away
Nobody argues when Sirius says that it's time for the month to end, although there are disagreements about other things. However, there are a few things to live for in Jo's post. Hesta muses over the worth of a life while another two lives (Astra and Mairus) are joined in arrangedengagement. Severus finds out and echoes Sirius's earlier sentiments.
