It had been far too long since Dorcas had read a good book. Hell, it had been far too long since Dorcas had the time to read a good book. Between work, the Order, friends, and just the general trials of being an "adult" Dorcas was left with hardly any time to just curl up in her pajamas and read a book all day, which was a shame because looking a mess and being entirely unproductive whilst reading had always been one of Dorcas's favourite past times. Dorcas was determined, however, to fill this hole in her life at her earliest convenience, but to do that she would need to find a good book that she hadn't already read three times.
Dorcas already had a few titles in mind that she wanted to check out when she entered Flourish & Blott's. One of the perks of having mates who were book critiques was that she didn't have to sort out which books were good and which were other rubbish all by herself. Dorcas scanned the book shelves for this book her friend Fitz had told her about. It was by a new author, Livia Ashworth, and it was about a German witch who was driven insane by insomnia and ends up murdering her husband. Dorcas figured it wasn't going to be a real "feel good" story, but she found that books with dark themes were often juicier, and she could really go for a juicy book right now.
Once she found Ashworth's book, Dorcas pulled it out and scanned the cover. She skimmed over the description on the back of the book, but it revealed nothing that Fitz hadn't already told her about the novel. With a quick glance at her watch Dorcas discovered she still had forty-five minutes until she had to be back at work so she plopped herself down on the floor, flipped the cover up, and dived into the first page of what Fitz had promised her was a "gorefest thriller".
