Summary: Despite getting some bad news the day before, Katie tries to celebrate her birthday.
Katie hadn't felt much like having a party after she'd heard about George's illness. Even less when she found out that Percy and Ginny were suffering from the same thing. But she'd had no idea Percy was even sick. He didn't look sick. And he was conscientious about casting his charms. And both he and Ginny had been planning on attending her party, so they obviously were confident that they were healthy enough to be out and about among others.
After the initial shock had worn off, Katie decided that this was just the way life was going to be from now on; until they found a cure, at least. People would get sick. She'd take precautions but she'd keep living her life the way she'd planned to. It was that or spend the rest of her days locked in her flat, terrified of the outside world.
She looked around the Capricorn and was pleased with the job the staff had done. The food was set up on tables, looking scrumptious and waiting to be devoured. She'd placed the cake at the far end, so people could admire it before they cut it into pieces. It was a gorgeous cake, Katie thought with a smile, and she was so pleased with it. She'd picked the colours to match the dress she'd bought last week.
This was no ordinary dress. The clerk at Chameleon had called it a 'wiggle dress' and Katie'd thought she'd been referring to the wiggling she had to do to get the dress on. But once she'd exited the fitting room and looked in some mirrors as she walked in it, she'd realized the wiggle referred to her arse. Katie'd never worn anything so tight and revealing. It felt sexy and daring and well, it was her birthday party, so she bought it. But as she stood in the Capricorn, wearing her incredibly sexy dress, her hair flowing down her back in loose curls, she felt a bit self-conscious. What if it was too sexy? After all, she didn't want all the blokes making passes at her or grabbing her arse. There was only one bloke who she wanted to make a pass. She wondered what Timothy would think of the dress. In their most recent kisses, she'd sensed that he'd been holding back. Maybe the time for holding back was over. She wanted him and she was pretty sure he wanted her too.
Katie adjusted the red silk flower that she'd pinned in her hair and waited for her friends to arrive. She hoped that, despite all that had happened, they could still have a good evening.
