Black Females in Fiction

If anyone has a Dreamwidth account, I'm setting up this community over there. I'm in still in the process of doing that, and I'll be working a lot harder to make it more active than I have in the past.

You've probably already heard about Disney's upcoming film, The Princess and the Frog, but I just saw some of the concept art and the kid in me actually got excited!

This topic is simple enough - who are your favorite black female characters? List as many as you want, even if you repeat someone else's - and tell us something about them!

Obviously, this community is at it's core about black female characters. Since it is just starting out, I'm going to let the topics be very broad, and we'll take it from there. So criticism, praise, and general discussion about specific characters to general portrayals, graphics, fanfic, and original works are all perfectly welcome.

Help me make this community grow; don't be afraid to post! A good start would be making some introductions in the comments.
