I have an apartment! Got the keys today, so it's currently completely empty and I'm just sitting in the middle of it basking in the silence (no offense, family).


Obviously that means it's party time. Right?


Just kidding, can't say that with a straight face. Don't trash my apartment.

Apparently someone just ordered the rest of the shrimp at Kamekona's, so along with having my newly-straightened hair dunked in the ocean, being transported to 2015 and needing to join the "my parents don't know I exist" club, I also don't get any shrimp. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Oh, right. Hipsters are in. Let me find some sunglasses while I introduce myself: Irina Barnes. You probably haven't heard of me.

MUMMY FAMILY + LIBRARIANS + LEVERAGE FAM:

I was offered a position as lead on a site in Nepal. Pompeii has been mostly clean-up for the last few weeks and I'm... tempted? They specified that they need someone of my "considerable talents" (their words! Though, obviously, I agree), which likely means it's to be dangerous or they're scared of something.

I don't speak very good Nepali, however, so we'd need a translator. Nepal is one of the few countries where polyandry is leg They've offered to put me and my "team" up in a very nice little farm house, likely due to the dangerous aspect.

As usual, I welcome all pros and cons, arguments or praises of my abilities.

Holy crap.

I'm published. The first two pieces from my summer commission are out on the shelves as of this week. Companion pieces, both graphic novels. [Insert picture of the display at a Comic Shop Here]


It's crazy to buy them all, right?

You know, I can forgive having to go two decades backwards on my computer. WoW 2 is weirdly still a thing in the 40s, so WoW isn't that difficult to get used to. Very 2d and retro. I can forgive the lack of private theaters and hovercars, space travel, Jaegers, teleportation.

But really, grunge is back in style? What's next, guys using wallet chains?


I'm consoling myself with Broadway, who wants to go with me to Hamilton, Wednesday night?

So, just how retired are you?

Italy is as beautiful as I expected. Mind you, I haven't seen much except for the airport and ruins, but the ruins are gorgeous.


Just how active IS Mt. Vesuvius? Because I predict we'll be here a while.

Stella and I are going to Boat tonight. Trendy dive with plans to pick up somebody for a night of meaningless sex. Friends and whatevers welcome, but if you come with a SO and make us feel bad about our single-ness, we're leaving you to the vultures.

Well. It's becoming clear the newest intern isn't going to work out. While he's quite proficient in written translations, he is ... not so good at verbal.

And I'm fairly certain that he just happened to raise the dead. And by fairly certain, he absolutely did just raise the dead.


It's not my fault!

You know, when you grow up hearing all the stories about how truly fucked up this place can be, hearing your parents, aunts, uncles, cousins... Everybody talk about how Blackpoint the Freak Show, see the reality TV shows that crop up, get stuck going to the beach BBQs and know more cops than anybody should ever actually have to meet in their lifetime...

I know we aren't technically Americans, but I like celebrating the holidays of the world/country we're in, so. Kil Dad gave me permission to throw a 4th of July celebration on his ship tomorrow night! I'm making a ton of food, snacks and desserts (and champagne??), and I'm going to decorate with blankets and pillows everywhere. We're going to sail out onto the water so we can watch the fireworks from the perfect spot.

So. Family, extended family, friends, Liam's boyfriend, anyone who wants to see the fireworks from an awesome place in Hawaii?

I got a job. I mean, I have a job, but an art job. A guy saw my fantasy piece that I put up last week and contacted me about commissioning for a series of book covers and concept art for a fantasy series. Sixty pieces. They already sent me my starter check.

This is big. Biggest commission I've ever done. Holy crap.



I need to stock up on hibernation snacks.

Nothing quite like being trapped in a tomb with skeletons that were previously known to be cannibals on a Sunday afternoon.

The good news is that there doesn't seem to be any books around for me to read, and the cell service is still fair. The bad news being that the trap in front of the door is quite armed and dangerous.
