When you were a little kid, and you believed that whole "you can be whatever you want to be" line, what did you want to be when you grew up?



I went through a phase of wanting to be an astronaut. I'd read a story about Sally Ride and thought she was so inspiring, and I wanted to explore foreign planets and make friends with E.T. (all aliens were E.T.) But then I fell off the jungle gym and got scared of heights and that was that. It's funny how things change.

My parents did, they didn't like noticing I was smart. But my grandmother saw right through me, and bought me my first lab kit.

You know how I've been working with Bonnie? She's got some different magic she's been trying. Well, today I was able to pick up a glass and hold it for nearly five seconds.




And then my hand phased out, and it fell and I was so excited I couldn't really clean up the mess, but... but.

And I didn't have to get angry, either! It just worked, for the first time since-- I'm trying not to get too excited; so far I haven't been able to duplicate it, but it's progress.

Things are fine. I've figured out girl clothes in a more reasonable sort of way, and I've got my hair under control. Being a girl is hard, but I'm resilient.

Cleopatra. I was her for Halloween one year. I practiced rolling myself in the carpet and surprising people when I rolled out of it. I was denied a pet asp. It was an intense time.
