“That’s the real oath of the Guardians, you see. We promise to turn all of the children in to sugared up hellions and then unleash them onto their unsuspecting families,” he responded. The cocky hair toss made him grin, and he watched her whisper with raised eyebrows. “She’s got the right idea,” he commented, unable to resist the opportunity to make a dirty joke. “You and her are plotting to take over the world, I can see it now.”
He rolled his eyes at that. “Sure you didn’t. It’s those damn wiles again,” he said, shaking his head. “They’d probably put me in a glass cage and let scientists parade through and poke at me to see if they can figure me out.”
He felt her tense and could hear her breathing change, and the worry was hard to shake. He pressed kiss to her forehead to calm her down, holding her closer. “You’re so good with those kids. They’re going to end up loving you so much more than me.”
