WHO: Jess Bhamra & Jules Paxton
WHEN: Late 2012 (Backdated)
WHERE: Blackpoint
WHAT: Jules and Jess take a breather during a water war. And end up making out on a roof.
RATING: PG
The water war had been raging all weekend, but Monday morning was right around the corner, which would signal the end of the three day event. Jess had spent most of the weekend soaked to the bones and sporting a sniffle that had developed sometime during Saturday night. But it was all worth it because ever since Joe had been sent back, things had seemed a little less bright. But with a water gun in hand and her best friend by her side, it felt like nothing could touch her. They were hiding out on the roof of a house, though Jess wasn't completely sure which one it was. She had a row of water balloons strapped across her chest, while a larger water gun sat across her outstretched legs. She was sitting next to Jules, against the wall that made up the edge of the roof. The two were out of sight, earning them a temporary reprieve from the war that continued on below. "Y'know," she said, bumping Jules' shoulder with her own and grinning. "We're going to have to turn on Michelle and Jack before they do." The twins seemed to have taken on an intense desire to win the war at any costs and it only seemed logical they would turn on them soon enough. Jules had her knee pulled up to her chest, adjusting the makeshift holster she'd strapped to her thigh with one of the smaller water guns the girls had acquired. The much larger super soaker that had been her main weapon sat beside her. Satisfied that the holster would continue to hold, she dropped her leg back down to a more comfortable position and grinned over at Jess. "You're not kidding. Michelle's got a look in her eyes that's downright terrifying." She reached up a hand to pull away the bandana that had been keeping her hair out of her face. It, and her hair, were both still damp from an earlier attack. Most of her was, actually. Part of the allure of sitting on the roof was the chance to dry themselves out, even if just for a moment or two. She ran her fingers through her hair a few times. "I saw we draw their fire toward one of Jack's face-twins and then attack from the side." "That sounds like it could work. Bucky's making himself a nice target by insulting everyone, it'll be easy to get Jack to turn on him," Jess grinned, blinking the droplets of water that kept running down into her eyes out. She shifted into a crouch to peek over the ledge, though groaned when her tired legs protested. Sitting down with a small thump again, she reconsidered her previous idea. "Maybe after a tiny break?" She asked, smiling sweetly at Jules. Jules watched Jess as she shifted her position and smirked as she sat right back down again. "What's the matter, Jess? Having trouble keeping up?" She teased, but the truth was, she didn't mind a break either. Her arms and shoulders were exhausted. "All right, just a short break. To dry out for a few minutes." "What are you, the Terminator? Don't tell me you're not tired too." Her nose and forehead wrinkled up as she made a face at Jules, taking her water gun and nudging Jules in the side with it. A smile was struggling to break out over her faux disbelieving face, but she managed to barely hold it back. Jules smirked. "Yes, Jess. I'm the Terminator. Sent back through time to protect your sorry arse in this bloody water war. And watch who you're nudging with that gun, Bhamra. You get me any more wet than I already am, and all bets are off." Grinning because that was practically an invitation to start something, Jess squeezed the trigger on her gun. It was just enough to further soak Jules' top. "I'm sorry, my finger slipped," Jess explained, her grin not the least bit sorry. Then she had the audacity to do it again. Jules' mouth dropped open in an expression of playful shock. "Jess!" Her shirt dripping wet, she reached to her side and grabbed her own gun to douse her best friend. Sitting as they were made scrambling away a difficult task, and within the few seconds it took Jules to pull the trigger, Jess was just as soaked as she was. They had escaped from the water war down below, but were now engaged in their own battle up on the roof. "Take that!" Jules grinned as she got Jess right between the eyes. Rapidly bringing her hand up to her face in an effort to keep from getting completely soaked, she squeezed her eyes shut when that failed to be enough of a shield. Squealing, she tried batting away Jules' gun without knowing where it actually was. That resulted in her offsetting her balance and pitching forward into Jules with a small squeak of surprise. Jules had been laughing triumphantly at Jess and her unsuccessful attempts to keep herself from getting wet. She laughed right up until Jess started to lose her balance and landed in her lap, knocking the both of them over. Jules like to think that she was tough and confident and could handle just about anything life threw at her. But with Jess on top of her, and their faces only a few inches apart, Jules completely forgot how to do anything. She was just there, with her heart racing ridiculously fast, and her stomach flipping around nervously. Words, Jules she told herself. Bloody well say something, will you? She intended to say something light and witty to break the odd little moment of silence between them. A bit of teasing, Jess would laugh at her, then they'd both sit up and go about as usual. It was a good plan. Except for the part where instead of joking, Jules decided to lean up and kiss her instead. Ever since Joe had been sent back, Jess had been giving a lot of thought to that night she and Jules has shared that kiss. It had been a pretty nice kiss, but given that she was involved with someone that she was pretty sure she loved, it hadn't gone anywhere. But as much as she missed him, Joe wasn't on her mind as often as she had thought he would be. So when Jules had leaned up to kiss her, she surged down and met it halfway. Their angle was slightly awkward, but it was still pretty great and Jess was smiling when she pulled back to gulp down some air. "And what was that for?" She asked, tone teasing. "Do I need a reason?" Jules covered the fluttering in her stomach by teasing back. She grinned up at Jess and propped herself up on her elbows. "Or maybe I was trying out a new distraction technique." Nudging away their guns and then shuffling a little to get into a better position, Jess wrinkled her face up and said, "It could use a little work." Almost immediately her face smoothed out and she grinned, leaning down to kiss Jules again. So. This was happening. In the middle of night in their darkened bedroom was one thing, but this was out in the open. Sure, they were still out of sight, but it felt different to Jules. She suddenly felt delightfully heady, and leaned up into Jess's kiss. Her hand moved of it's own accord, stopping on Jess's waist and nudging her closer. She hadn't had much experience kissing, well, anyone. Joe was the sum of all her experience and she felt a little clumsy, trying to figure out what felt right with Jules. But the other girl wasn't pushing her away, so she was counting it as a win, as permission to keep going. Eventually, air became an issue again and she pulled away. But her smile was still present, almost deliriously happy that she had done that, that Jules hadn't pushed her away. "So. That happened," she murmured, making no move to get off Jules. "Yes it did." Jules kept her hand on Jess' waist and gave the other girl a smile. She suddenly remembered what had happened back home when the Bhamras had only THOUGHT that the two of them had been kissing. And now here they were actually doing it. She nearly said something, but didn't want to spoil the moment by reminding Jess about her family's concerns. "I'd be okay with it happening again too." She knew her parents reactions to this would probably be absolutely horrifying. They had only just begun to accept that she had been dating someone that wasn't Punjabi, a Sikh like them. But this? Dating another girl? Regardless of skin colour and religion, this would probably give her father a heartattack. And her mother would likely never speak to her again, while her sister would accept her. It would just irritate her to no end that she was the sister of the pariah of their community - a source of gossip. Thankfully, the thought of her family wasn't on her mind or she might have started to overthink things. "Well, I have absolutely no objections to that," Jess said, grin bright against her dark skin. "How about we fight our way out of here and head to our room?" Because as nice as kissing up there was, she would have felt more comfortable in a more private location. Jules leaned up and kissed Jess one more time for good measure. When she pulled away she grinned. "Cover me." |
