She had not truly realized how little time she had spent in this place until she had began to reacquaint herself. It had never seemed that so much time had passed between visits. She had always kept herself occupied, probably more than what was healthy, but such patterns had kept her ignorant of the time she spent away. If she was not directed towards Court, she did not direct herself toward it, be it mentally or physically. It was small steps she took now, confronted from time to time with an unfamiliar presence. Still, those she was familiar with always seemed to ask the same question. What had brought her back to court? Politics was a decent enough reason, but even that was a slim line to cling to.
In all respects, as a House Leader, she should be busier with things far more important than the lower levels of Court. To an extent she was, of course. She was receiving regular updates of what was going on in the West, particularly regarding the border and the Mountain pass. That did not, however, erase the fact that she had not returned to her home to oversee it personally. Instead of the comfort of her own home, she remained under the expectations to present herself properly. Gone were the simple dresses and uncomplicated air that she was so fond of, replaced by finery she had little patience for. She had never kept her dislike a secret, and it naturally left others wondering. Despite that, she used what skill she had to respond with answers that carefully shifted the attention away from herself. Given everything that was occurring, there was plenty of topics to choose from. In this instance, gossip turned out to be relatively useful.
Even with her determination, she could only handle so much. After a particularly long winded discussion with another Courtier regarding what truly should be done about their volatile neighbours to the North, Ava took her leave. It was still early yet to retire and she found herself wandering familiar paths through the halls until she came across an open balcony overlooking one of the court yards. Stopping, she took the opportunity to lean against the stone railing and watch those milling about below her as Brokk stood to her left, back turned on the scene below as his attention shifted to what Ava, herself, had turned her back to.
"It's a hive," she spoke, a small amount of amusement filtering into her tone as she watched those below her move about on their respective missions, "though I've yet decided which role here I am playing currently."
"Worker, naturally."
Brokk's familiarly deep tone drawing a laugh from her as she glanced back towards him with some amusement. "The only answer you're willing to give, no doubt," she responded, a certain fondness in her tone, "you wouldn't dare say drone, even if it were true." The amusement tugging at his own lips told her all she needed to know regarding the truth of it. "You spent too much time with my father, you're starting to sound like him."
"I shall take that as compliment, Lady Dubhghail."
Shaking her head, her amusement lingering, her eyes returned to the individuals milling about below.
