Imagine a library. A public library, in a large city. Filled with books, both fiction and non-fiction. Books for children, young adults, large print collections, audio and visual materials. There's computers, photo copiers, even an old card catalogue. Information points, check-out desks, back offices, a kitchen for staff lunches, repair desks, aquisition shelves. It could be your local library. Picture it in your mind.
Now, picture it at midnight.
A young blonde woman sits reading, turning the pages slowly, pausing only to take a sip of a coke she coaxed from the staff vending machine. A man sits in the AV room, mesmerised at footage of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. A small white kitten pounces on a ball of fluff, viciously attacking it's prey.
For you see, this is a very special library. This library has the Tribuo Lux Lucis - the Giver of light; a stained glass window restored and installed in the East readers corner. At the right time of day, the sunlight will shine through this window, and focus a beam of light on one particular chair. If there is someone reading in that chair, and they truly believe the character in the book to be real... well...
Bibliotecha is an all new RPG for obscure characters from fiction. You won't find any Harry Potter or Twilight characters here. Instead, this is a haven for those fictional characters that really spoke to you, but don't have their own fandom verses to play in.
Your character wakes one night to find themselves locked in a public library. They are locked in, alone, and have no recollection of how they ended up there. Come the early hours of the morning, they fall asleep, and by sunrise they have vanished, back in to the story they came from.
Night after night they find themselves in the library, until one night, they realise that they are not alone.
What will your character do? Will they search the shelves to find the meaning behind these nocturnal visits? Rally fellow characters and break out? Convince themselves it's all a dream? Or will they be happy to just go along for the ride?
And just what is happening with the Tribuo Lux Lucis? With each new character it seems to glow, just that little bit brighter...
Tribuo Lux Lucis - The stained glass window in the eastern corner of the library. The window, translated from the latin as the Giver of Light, was purchased from a leadlight restoration company, it’s original source is unknown.
Woken Point - the point in your characters story when they are ‘woken up’ by the Tribuo Lux Lucis. Your character will have no idea what happens in their book after their woken point, they will only have memories of their 'story so far'.
Illuminated - When the sunlight shines through the Tribuo Lux Lucis, striking the book and reader, and allowing your character to appear in the library at night.
