We can smoke 'till there is no more lighter fluid to do it
Jaya really hadn’t been kidding when she told Terry the answer to whether or not she wanted to grab a smoke was always yes. Granted, she didn’t chain smoke or anything, and still didn’t smoke as much as some people around the mansion but the habit was back full force. For about a month or so a while back she’d slacked off considerably and came very close to quitting. But that was because she’d just started dating Brian, and wasn’t sure if it was something he was ok with or not. Thankfully he was, because not getting her regular nicotine fix had made her even more of a bitch than usual- not to Brian, of course, but various people around her. Not that Jaya exactly needed an excuse to be a bitch to some people but it was still good to have one sometimes.

So many people at the school seemed kind of somber or emo or something along those lines right now. Whether it was due to the memorial, or the events that lead up to it or the secrets or whatever was a toss up in each case. Jaya wasn’t one to dwell on things like that. It was just the way things happened at Xavier’s- shit happens and then you move on. Looks like some people didn’t get the whole ‘move on’ part right just yet. Whatever. All Jaya knew was that after this week she’d officially be a high school graduate, and there would be a few blissfully responsibility free months ahead she had every intention of making the most of. Everyone else could mope and sulk all they wanted to while she was having fun.

It was starting to get dark outside now, evening slowly edging into night as another day drew to its close. Jaya had wandered outside for one of her regularly scheduled smoke breaks. As big as this place was, there were certain spots certain spots the smokers tended to frequent, and it wasn’t a very odd thing to encounter a person in pursuit of the same fix as herself, regardless of the conditions outside. At least it was pretty out now and not ridiculously hot. Not that it would have mattered as she would have been out here anyway. From somewhere amongst the roofing and eaves not too far away there was a soft snarl as one of the Gremlins scurried along their way to get into whatever mischief it could find. Sometimes it was amazing how much their behavior mirrored that of the girl who could control them.

Terry had been a student of Xavier's for years. It would be safe to say that she has learned every trick and has been through the highs and lows of the school like everybody else, and yet, she never got a grasp on becoming comfortable with the tragic that came with living here. Her long break at Muir Isle didn't serve a good purpose either as it only made her even more vulnerable to the frequent loss at the school. But, as said before, she has been through most of Xavier's bad times and has created methods to dealing with them. Like all things bad, she needed to smoke it out. It didn't matter what would happen to her lungs at all since they were all super powered and all. She smoked only for the relief. Fuck possible lung cancer problems normal humans would have to experience.

Though she has seen Xavierites killed, captured, and/or severed, she had never realized how annoying it was when students became all emo. And it didn't end there with this brand new mass of students. Someone was creating pictures and was too scared to show their face(s). What a bitch. Terry would often say every week when the famous 'secrets' made their debuts. She didn't have to worry about these things when she was a student many years ago. People weren't so quick to backstab one another or gossip about one's business. Things like that would have stressed out any sane person. If she only had one cigarette left it would be the death of her.

She didn't worry about her journal post too much either. Jaya agreed to have a smoking break with her, and if rumors served her right then Jaya would be the person to see when you wanted to let loose. Terry hoped she didn't make any mistakes when she picked her as a desired smoking buddy. She eased outside, roughly stomping over the lawn Laura probably put so much work into. It didn't matter to the young Cassidy at the moment. A cigarette was only mere seconds away and the kindness of just flying over the lawn surpassed her train of thought... like everything else.

"'Sup Jaya. Hope I'm not too late. I practically ran me ass down here." She went inside her shirt, seemingly searching for her pack of cigarettes within her bosom. "For cryin' out fuckin' loud!" Puppy dog eyes time, Jaya. "You mind sparin' me a ciggy, lassie. You know I need it." Who can deny the puppy dog treatment?

As coping mechanisms go, smoking it out wasn’t a very bad one. With all the healers running around it wasn’t like there was no chance of getting cured from lung cancer or whatever if any of them actually did contract it.

Maybe Jaya would change her apathetic point of view eventually, especially if someone she really really cared about got stuck in the middle of the wtfery and it ended badly. But that was a bridge to be crossed when she came to it, if she did at all. The idea of it would dance across her mind every now and again and then disappear again to be forgotten in lieu of more pleasant things. Really there was no reason for Terry to worry about her journal post. If there was anyone who’d gotten pissy over it, they hadn’t spoken up. And as the bitch factor generally went around here, there was probably always going to be someone who had her beat. According to some people, Jaya took that honor a lot of the time. Not that she ever particularly tried. It was just that her personality drastically clashed with certain other people’s.

And Terry also needn’t worry about her pick for a smoking buddy. Honestly, Jaya was always in the mood for finding new companions for drinking, partying, smoking, or all of the above. Most of the people she knew either weren’t always up for the task, or she disliked enough to not want to hang out with anyway. Already she had a good feeling Terry wasn’t going to fall in either of those categories. It was hard for her not to grin at the declaration of missing cigarettes. What smoker hadn’t been there? Digging her own pack out of the pocket of her jeans, she handed her pack that was about half full over so Terry could take one. “Of course you can. Like I’m gonna hold out on someone in need of a smoke?” Please. That is so not how she rolls.
