your soul ripped from your stomach, you gave an awful cry;

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Keeping her under was a medical precaution more than anything else, with as many blows to the head as she had taken they were concerned about bringing her around after the surgery, but when her brain showed no signs of swelling during their observation period they weaned her off the medication keeping her unconscious and let her wake up in her own time. Now, a few days after the attack and after the surgery Sadie's eyes rolled listlessly, but only one flickered open. The other was beneath sterile white bandaging and wadding; they'd repaired where her retina had been peeling away and expected her to make a full recovery of her sight in a few weeks. For the single eye she could see through everything was blurred around the edges and she moaned low in her throat. Or she tried to. No sound came out. Then she realised that she couldn't breathe. There was something trapped in her mouth and throat, something that was going to suffocate her. Only she didn't seem to be out of breath, her lungs definitely weren't burning, though considering how much morphine she was on for all the broken bones it was unlikely she would have felt them if they were. That gave her pause even through the panic though. It was a respirator, she realised dimly. Whatever drugs they'd pumped her with they were making it really hard to think.

They weren't making it hard to remember though. No matter what anybody put in her veins, she would always be able to remember. )
