Little Star, So You Had To Go...(Open to Warren)
Ever since the whole end of the world act at Xavier's, Alani had been having a hard time readjusting. Thank goodness classes had ended, so she had one less thing to focus on. Time to think had been hard pressed against her. With her free time she had blown off steam by rocking some waves in the Danger Room. She also wrote to her family and caught up on some reading that she'd been wanting to do. Now she was just sitting outside by the pool putting together a wind chime. With her was a bag full of shells, twine, beads, and everything else that she needed. The base was a shell plate that her mother had made for her. It was really pretty, the colors caught in the sunlight to give it a sparkle effect. The shells she used reined from small, painted star fish, conch, tusks, and sand dollars. She even had a few polished stones to go wtih them. Back home, Alani and her mother had used to put together wind chimes, jewelry, and lei's to sell to tourists. They were nothing really special, but it was something to pass the time with. "Homemade comes from the heart," her mother used to say. Not just that, it was an activity that her mother had used to force Alani into a more ladylike decorum. It...hadn't really worked. Not to the extent that Aileli had craved. But it did manage to catch Alani's interest occasionally.

One couldn't spend all day watching BMX... right?

Well Alani did like to have other activities to do. Watching extreme sports and fantasizing about being famous for them herself wasn't her only hobby. At home she used to hike. It was different here. She did not know this area well enough to just take off on her own. It was not only that getting lost would be a huge embarrassment. It went without saying that Hawaii had more hiking options then New York did. From what she had seen, anyway. Also, it would be nice for her to find someone to go with her. Someone who knew where they were going. There was a gaggle of people running about this place. Even though in her short stay here so far she had made some acquaintances, Alani wanted more then that. She wanted a connection with the people here. They all had something to offer, being that they had come from all walks of life. But some of them were so learned that they did not bother with the newbies that were shuttled into the mansion. It was strange that she craved their attention so much. Usually Alani had no problem being a loner. In fact, she utilized it. The status made it so that she could get away with not being bothered by anyone that she didn't want to be. But many things had changed over the course of the new year. Her life was not the same anymore. Change was inevitable. Who knows? Maybe this was the course she would have chosen even if she had never mutated. Alani didn't know what was in store for her, here or anywhere else. But she did know that she had to make the best of it. It wasn't like she was leaving anytime soon.

Alani began to focus on her work, alternating the decorations by stone and shell type. It was turning out nice. She hoped that her roommate wouldn't be annoyed by the little contraption. Hopefully not. Maybe if she gave this to Sofia then she would be forced to like it, and they could leave it in the window. That might work out nicely.

Warren's life had not been the easiest thing in the world to have recently, and his powers being back (in a sense) were far from the worst of it. It was everything else, really, that had been getting in the way and messing with him and, in fact, keeping him from the school much of the time. Worthington, Inc. had taken a huge hit from what had happened, understandably, and his parents had been in meetings nonstop both to try and save their stocks from plummeting, and to try and avoid laying off thousands of people as various factories closed around the world. There was the press as well, trying to juggle it and deal with it and avoid it all at the same time. The recent discovery of how the Brotherhood had infiltrated, which he wasn't even allowed to talk about until arrests had been made. Then there was Rogue in his head, trying to share his mind with her and finding that the link was there even when he was halfway across the world. And the fact that Rogue herself was dealing with Nate -- or, rather, Nate's powers, which she was completely unsuited for and thus were driving her a bit insane. And in turn driving Warren a bit insane. He'd taken to using anti-anxiety medications to get through the worst of it, but it still had him tense almost all the time.

He was just coming back from another trip, but had opted not to take the waiting car back to the school. Instead, he'd flown. Having his wings back was possibly the only good thing that came from all of this, even if they weren't really the wings he'd once had. Before, they'd been pure white feathers, soft as clouds. Now they were cold metal, adamantium to be precise, razor sharp at the edges and holding lots of dangerous things like blades and darts. His skin had changed as well -- now if he wasn't wearing an image inducer (which he was at the moment!), it was a striking blue shade. And he had healing blood? It was all too strange for words, but he could fly again, and that was what was important. Even if his parents disliked him making a spectacle of it by doing things like flying from an airport to his school.

But whatever, it wasn't as though people could really see him from that high up anyway. Once he got closer to the ground was another matter though, especially when he was out in the sun where the lights would shine off of the metal brightly. He was swooping down in the back, dropping easily even as he noticed someone else was out there. And hey, someone he knew. And...probably should have been in better touch with, not that he'd really been keeping in touch with many people recently. He smiled some from the other side of the pool. "Hey. What're you doing?"

Talk about sparkling off the sun...

Alani looked up when she heard Warren's voice. How had she not heard his landing? Was he sneaking up on her, or was she really that preoccupied with what she was doing? It didn't matter. Alani's jaw dropped when she saw the full effect of Warren's new wings. Well then again she hadn't seen the old ones, so she was taken aback anyway. Very impressive. She couldn't say that she'd seen anything quite like it before. On top of that Warren was smiling at her, and that did strange things to the pit of her stomach. Of course she was attracted to him from the start. If she hadn't of been then Alani wouldn't have propositioned him for kisses in the first place.

But how long ago was that? Months? Weeks? Alani did not think that they would ever get to that lunch he had offered her. But at the same time she didn't think it would be fair to bother him about it. If all they were was a night of some awesome making out who was she to complain?

"Hello." Alani's voice shook a little with a giggle. Her smile was bright when she stared at him. He was like a glowing angel, with the sun flowing rays off of his back. And the sheer metal wings. Alani held out the latest twine she was putting shells on. "I'm making a wind chime. For Sofia."

Alani kind of felt awkward. Her lap was full of everything she had been working with, so standing up was not an option. She was wearing short shorts and a swim suit top in case she decided to abandon her work and go for a swim. And she was barefoot. That last shouldn't be too embarrassing, but her toe nails weren't done. And her feet looked roughened from walking everywhere barefoot. Being a tomboy had never bothered her until this very moment. Shouldn't she be cuter?

"How have you been?"

Wings had to be one of the best and worst mutations around. They were certainly an impressive thing, no matter what form. And they enabled you to fly, which was an experience that was almost otherworldly in its magic. Not only that, but it was self-propelled. It was different from telekinesis and other such things that could send you through the air, it was actually part of you, muscles you were using and features you could feel the wind against. It wasn't like he was the only one here with them -- Jay had his red feathered version, and Annelise had the ones made of energy that came and went -- but still. His were different and he knew it. They were deadly, for one thing, and they were able to do things that Jay's didn't. Like how they could fold up.

There was an audible shink-ing sound as the metal feathers slid up within the ones above them, compacting neatly and laying fairly flat against his back. It was much easier to keep them hidden this way. Which of course was the bad part about having wings, or most physical mutations really. It was hard to keep them unseen, not like the ability to create fire or read minds. You were identified on sight. And wings specifically could make clothing difficult, although Warren was wealthy to the extreme and was able to have clothes tailored around his extra appendages, of course. He'd forgotten somehow that she hadn't seen him with his wings; it just felt so natural to have them back that he took for granted that they were a part of him again, in a sense. He had also indeed forgotten that he owed Alani a lunch, but not because he didn't want to take her out. Things were just too hectic at the moment, he barely remembered the basics half the time.

He liked her smile and her laugh though; there was something about that tomboyishness and her more natural beauty compared to some of the made up sorts around here that made him feel more at ease. You didn't really see people doing little handicrafts for their friends in the circles he ran in. She didn't need to worry about getting up though, as he was moving around the pool and over towards her, giving a half-smile back. "Tired. Kind of jet-lagged. You?" He tilted his head some when he got closer and could see the wind chime better. "Where'd you learn how to do that?

When Alani saw his wings retract it made her think of Transformers. Not surprising, since she had been aching to see the movie. She was surprised how the metal appendages were so easily a part of him. Alani momentarily worried for his back, thinking he might accidentally cut himself from time to time. Then again she figured he must know how to handle them. It was just that Alani herself was so unused to her own mutation. She hadn't done any real damage so far. At least, nothing like the wall or the car in Hawaii. Yet she still worried. She didn't want the day to come where someone bumped into her and she made something crumble into teeny weeny bits. Especially if that something were vital. But it seemed that she only ruined things in a high stress situation, and those things were usually furniture or something as harmless. So Alani kept quiet about it for now, not wanting to cause any trouble.

If Alani brought up the forgotten lunch at all it would just be to pull Warren's leg. Honestly she wasn't down about it or anything. Any opportunity to talk to him, whether it was bumping into each other at the pool or a planned outing, made her just as happy. She didn't know how to deal with boys in the first place. And she had just recently had her first kiss. So she was far from complaining. Alani laughed a little at his jet-lagged comment. Well, she didn't realize he would mean by plane since he'd just swooped down here on his own. And flying yourself had to be more tiring then being flown, or so her logic told her.

"I've been okay." She nodded in agreement with her own statement. "Just trying to take it easy. And I'm glad it gets so warm here. I'd kill for a beach." Alani looked down for a quick second to tie off the twine she was working on, then tied the addition to the shell plate in her lap.

"My mom taught me how," she informed him after his query, still working with quick fingers. "She used to make them for, like, a hobby before everyone started asking where she got such pretty chimes from. Then she decided to make a little money off of it. We would go down to the beach sometimes and just scoop up hundreds of shells. When she was lazy, she'd go out and buy them." Alani paused to laugh. "Buying shells in Hawaii...anyway. It was a mother/daughter bonding ritual of sorts. Since she couldn't stand watching sports with me."

Once Alani secured the last string, she held up the finished project to test it out. She blew on it and the shells, bells, and beads beat against each other. The melodious sound was loud in her ear and she jumped a little.

"Oh. Well, guess it works."
