If you go chasing rabbits, then you know you're going to fall. [open]
At this particular second, Matthew Rizzard was in more pain than he’d been in in a very long time. He kind of ached all over, there was a spot on the side of his face that was throbbing like mad and probably already puffing up and starting to bruise, and he was limping just a little. The limp was pretty sure wasn’t anything serious. He’d just kind of landed on it wrong….or something. Really the bumps and bruises didn’t bother him that much. It just sucked this is what he got for trying to do something good.

There were always tons of predators around the school, that was undeniable. And also something Matt didn’t exactly ever forget. It wasn’t like he could, with his nice flight reflexes and predidar and with you know, everyone reminding him all the time. And he really didn’t care how much it went along with the circle of life or the natural order of things or how much it was just the way nature was. As far as he was concerned all of that could be taken in a whole new light when you were one facing down the teeth instead of the one doing the biting. So he did what he could to try and help out. There wasn’t really much he could do with the bigger things running around or some of the smaller ones, but the least he could do was do his fellow lagomorphs a favor. Again.

While hopping around the grounds several weeks ago he’d found a nice little surprise. Near one of the outer edges of the grounds, a small herd of rabbits was working on making a nice little warren for themselves. Usually this would make Matt all warm and fuzzy inside, but with all the chompy bitey hunty things roaming around what it really made him was terrified for them. So he’d done something stupidly impulsive. After keeping a watch on them for a while he’d darted into the territory they’d staked out just long enough to kick plenty of dirt into the tunnel openings that had been started. The extra bit of speed he had came in pretty handy for zipping in and out without any confrontation. Later on he realized how ridiculous the action had been and at the time it had been his frenzied hope that it would be enough to discourage the rabbits and make them move on to find a new location. But unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Lagomorphs are hearty little animals, and off all people, Xavier’s resident lagomorph should have known that. Then again, it wasn’t like the decision had exactly been logical in the first place. So he should have known that the next time he went by the area, they’d still be there. And for some reason, that made him have another attack of the stupid. This time, he told himself, he was just going to have maybe get in there and try and cave some of the passages in, leaving some open for any who might be underground to get out of course. That didn’t go quite like he planed. The dashing in and dashing out tactic would have worked again but his determination to do the job right, so to speak, held him up quite a bit. And while he was bigger than them by a ridiculous degree, there were a lot more of them. Not to mention they now had his scent as an intruder and threat to their warren. Another thing a lot of people also don’t know about rabbits is that they’re highly territorial. So the getting in and out didn’t exactly happen and he’d ended up in the center of a grunting, kicking, biting mass of ears, feet, and fluffy cottontails before he’d managed to get himself an opening and make a break for it.

Hightailing it out of there had happened quickly enough, but Matt still took some hits, which transferred over once he shifted back to human form. Lucky, lucky him. All that brought him to right now, making his way back into the school and keeping himself from wincing at a little twinge that came in his ankle with every step and caused the resulting limp. Step, limp, ow. Step, limp, ow. Step, limp, ow. Siiigh. That is seriously going to be the last time he tries any heroics around here.
