Summary: Cass wakes up alone, and he doesn't like the feeling. The day doesn't get better when his mother terms herself grandmother and he finds out he'll have a litter or kittens to care for soon...
The morning light was far too bright for his liking, and he groaned as he turned around and tried to go back to sleep. Almost without thinking, he reached out onto the other side of the bed, only to lift his head when finding it empty.
Groaning at opening his eyes he finally gave up, cursed at the morning light and went to take a shower. He wasn't even sure why he cast another look at the empty bed, or why he felt lonely all of a sudden. It wasn't as if there was a shortage of people in his bed, even if he'd been unsuccessful – again – yesterday.
Letting the water wash over him, he leaned against the tile, wondering why it all of a sudden was so important for him to have Percy again. He'd had him once, why wasn't that enough? And if it was that important, why wasn't he prepared to sacrifice a few things?
Because you'll mess it up, a voice in his mind told him, making him frown and push away from the tiles and finish showering.
The weekly letter for his mother was already waiting to be sent, lying on the coffee table where he'd left it before he'd left for Percy's last night. Sealing it, Cass let the owl out and sent it off, eating breakfast while waiting for it to come back. It did slightly annoy him that he kept wanting to talk to someone while eating, or actually Percy. Really he needed to get a grip.
The letter arrived back only a few hours later, but as he opened it up there was one sentence standing out so much he nearly started to hyperventilate…
So I'll guess I'll finally get to be a grandmother now.
Reading the letter again he could have cursed his mother for her "wit", and Mischa for not keeping his paws off his mum's cat. What the hell was he going to do with a litter of kittens? She couldn't seriously think he was going to care for them, could she?
I'll let you know that it was your doing for not warning me that Mischa wasn't castrated – I do not have time for kittens, they will be completely and utterly your responsibility when they're born…
Ok so she was serious. Fuck!
Forgetting all about his previous concerns, he took the letter and headed out the door, knocking on Susan's two steps later. Honestly, she had to help him with this. It was her cat who was responsible after all. Even if his mother clearly thought it was all his fault.
