Daphne looked down at Liam who, although he still looked sad, was calm and no longer crying at the moment. It was a good sign. "I'm sure he'll be fine," she said, keeping her voice low. "I think children tend to bounce back faster from this sort of thing, even if it's because they don't entirely understand."
It made her a bit glad that Nigel was so young during these times. The war was sure to be over, one way or the other, before he was old enough for it to emotionally effect him too much. Or, at least that's what she hoped.
She could practically see his thoughts churning, and she hated to see him brooding so much. But if there was a time to get these sorts of things out, this was it.
Daphne met his eyes easily. "There was nothing you could have done, Miles. You did what you were able."
