Natalie stared down in frustration at the photo album her mother had given her over the holidays, unable to remember any of the things going on within the pictures. She knew a picture was supposed to be worth a thousand words, but fuck it if she couldn't even come up with one. Going home over the holidays and seeing all her family members hadn't triggered any new memories at all. In fact, she hadn't had any new memories in over a month, which was saying a lot, considering it'd only been a couple months since she'd woken up.
She closed the photo album with a bit more force than she'd meant to, and reached up to brush away a tear.
She would not feel sorry for herself. If she couldn't remember something, she would just have to make up a new memory to put in its place. She could even invent herself an entirely different life. She could be the girl who hadn't run away when the world went crazy. She could be the girl who'd been making candy in Honeydukes for years. She could be the girl who actually knew people's names when they waved to her in the street.
But she wasn't that girl. She was the girl with no memory. The girl who smiled dumbly at people who said her name as she passed them in the street because she had no idea who they were. The girl who kept having meaningless sex with two people who didn't actually care for her.
She fell backwards onto her bed and then turned over, screaming into her pillow. She was glad it was a Sunday. Sunday meant the shop was closed. Sunday meant she could sleep the day away. She pointed her wand at the window by her bed, and shouted out a charm that would ward all sunlight out of the room, and then closed her eyes as darkness came over her.
Unfortunately, her mind was too riddled with thought and fatigue to realise that neither Cass nor Colin had taught her that charm...
