Lucius looked at the announcement in his hand, a smile he could not erase on his face. He would not admit that his hand was trembling slightly as he put the announcement on his desk, taking a celebratory drink of cognac, silently saluting his grandson.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
He pushed the feeling away, the wish that things were different with his son. Things would be, once the war was one, once Severus was gone and could no longer influence Draco. He only needed to be patient. Draco was still his son - and he had shown that by naming his own son after him.
He was good at patience. And knowing things would be right again once the war was one made the separation easier to push away and the utter feeling of pride stronger.
It still took almost half an hour before he was ready to write his reply.
Dearest Draco,
I am so proud of you, of Tracey and of little Scorpius. He's perfect. Just like any Malfoy child - and I know he'll bring you joy and pride as he grows up.
I'd ask to see him, but I would not want to put him at risk or put a strain on his mother. I will however make sure to be there as soon as is safe. In the meantime make sure that his grandmother spoil him enough for the both of us.
