OWL: Cass to Severus Date: February 14, 2006 (morning, before the ball) Characters: Cass, Severus Location: The Aurors' office Private/Public: Private Rating: G Warnings: None Summary: Cass owls Severus with some questions
The letter to Professor Snape had just been finished when Susan had come up to him that morning, showing him the report from the examiners, making the point of the letter pointless.
Anti-ageing potion. Taken for years. Her inner organs were a lot older than the rest of her body, and her blood oh so much thinner than it should be. Even a small cut would have sufficed for her to bleed to death. So the large gashes on her neck and wrists had really all been for show – just as they'd guessed. Sharing a look with Susan, Cass knew they thought the same thing – examine the wounds more carefully.
He watched as Susan went off to write to the morgue, while he formulated a new letter to Professor Snape. Not that he thought the lead would go anywhere. The woman had bled to death because of the potion that was true – but the man or woman making and selling it to her was most likely not the killer. He wasn't sure why he thought so, but somehow his gut told him no.
Still they'd need to find the man or woman anyway, and so he scribbled down the note and sent off.
We could use your expertise in a case. By now I'm sure you've heard about Madam Rosmerta's murder, well we just found out that the reason she bled to death was a long and regular use of anti-ageing potion.
We've understood from our reports that it requires quite rare ingredients, and that it is fairly complicated to brew. We were hoping that this would help us in finding her supplier. Basically what we're asking is if you know who in the country, maybe even in the area, would be able to either make, or get a hold of and sell, such a potion.
