It was odd hearing his son say these things and having such a good idea that they did not mean the same thing. Yet he chose to overlook that unpleasant fact, and smiled, convinced his son would come around once the war was over.
He'd see that it was all for the best. Understand that whatever had happened was meant to benefit him more than anyone else.
He shook his head at his son's explanation of marriage. 'I've known many with that view before,' he said. 'I hope you'll learn to change your mind. Your wife should always be the one closest to your heart, but I will not argue that with you now.'
'What is important is that you trust me. And trust me enough to take the potions without all these questions. I know it's in your nature to want to have access to all possible information - but if it came out that you had information, and did not disclose it, then you all your good work would be for nothing.' He did not mention that he was fairly certain that he would share the information and therefore ruin Rodolphus' plans.
'Besides, in this I am not allowed to tell you. Just know that the potion is created by one of the very best, and when he says that a pregnant woman should not take the potion because it's a risk to the child, you should know not to question that. It might also benefit you to know that Rodolphus, Bellatrix and myself have also taken it, so it is quite safe for you.'
'As if I would ever give you and your mother anything that was not safe.'
