OWL: Cass to Lettie
Date: February 7, 2006
Characters: Cass, Lettie
Location: The Auror's office
Private/Public: Private
Rating: G
Warnings: None…well possibly an angry Lettie
Summary: Cass reads Lettie's letter – and tries to smooth things over.
It's been long after his shift had ended that Cass finally made it home – hours after – right about the same time he was starting his next one. Or at least that was how it felt.
He'd managed to get a couple of hours sleep in a dodgy hotel in Manchester, but that didn't stop him from collapsing on the bed when he got home. No thoughts of anything more than sleep and a very warm shower.
He could have sworn he just fallen asleep when he had to get back up again, and was more or less a sleepwalker until he had stood in the shower for half an hour. He merely pondered breakfast before deciding against it, swearing when he realised his broom was still at the office.
He knew he was late when he arrived in. Knew there would be a ton of reports to file, things to look into, things to read through. He sighed, heading over to his desk and getting started. It wasn't until hours later – well after lunch - that he opened the drawer and found the letter from yesterday. Fuck, he'd forgotten about that.
Opening it up, he silently swore time and time again as he read it. Fuck! Percy would love this, wouldn't he? And judging by this Susan was making a big mistake in her assumptions about Rosmerta's murder – why else would she ask of Miles' whereabouts? If he hadn't had a headache before this, he definitely had one now.
Grabbing a quill he penned a reply trying to smooth things over with Lettie. Once the letter was sent off he'd go find Susan and see what she was up to. He'd need to convince her that Miles – Death Eater or not – would not kill Madam Rosmerta. For some reason he was sure of that.
Dearest Lettie,
My most humble apologies for not responding earlier to the letter you sent me yesterday, but I only just saw it and read it and wrote to you straight away.
I'm so terribly sorry to hear that Bones did not treat you as you deserve to be treated (though could any woman be anything other than intimidated and defensive when faced with your beauty?). It was terribly rude and insensitive of her and I'll make sure she knows that, and make sure she does not do something like that again.
You asked for the head of the Aurors' office, and his name would be Percy Weasley, though I'm not sure you really want to talk to him. As far as I know you're not too fond of Weasleys, actually you think they're dreadful people. Why don't you let me handle this for you, so you won't have to deal with someone else who would annoy and bother you? Weasley's people skills…leave some things to desire, and I wouldn't want you to suffer his company too.
As for Miles, I'll make sure that's handled properly. I promise I will make sure that he's telling the truth about being with you on Friday. Even he is not so stupid as to use you as an alibi otherwise. The new necklace, I'm sure is lovely, but I don't think it will be necessary to bring it – unless you have a receipt for it.
Again, I apologise for not writing earlier, but now I will handle everything for you darling. Don't worry about a thing other than when we'll be able to have that date you won off me. I think I promised you this weekend, and I did promise to remind you in advance, so consider yourself reminded. I'll let you know how things go with Miles.
Yours adoringly,
Cass
