Daphne giggled. "Perhaps all mothers are messes at first, then," she said, happy that it wasn't just her.
"Dealing with Nigel got a lot better after he stopped screaming constantly. He was quite the fussy little newborn, but he's cheered up considerably since he hit six months. You should have seen Verity's face when he started hollering at tea a few months back."
The memory made her chuckle a bit.
"I would need some very special circumstances to do it all again," she said. "Dealing with one child on my own is trouble enough."
