Dennis returned the smile, remembering how easy it was to slip into his friendly and innocent persona. "What are you doing out so late? Won't your family worry?"
"You just don't know what's lurking out here on the dark streets these days, do you?" He said with a worried tone. "Where were you headed? Perhaps I can escort you there safely."
As he stepped closer, grinning, he noticed something about her he'd not recalled that last time he was near her. Her heart was beating in a familiar pitter pat that sang to him most beautifully. But there was something about her scent that he only now detected.
It was very faint, but to his nostrils, it was just a touch unpleasant. He couldn't be sure, but perhaps she had just eaten garlic in her dinner. He didn't worry about it, for now.
