Summary: Padma's funeral
The service had been mercifully short and simple, for which Theo was grateful. Not that he cared too much. As far as he was concerned this entire day was only a necessary evil, a show for everyone else, something not relating to himself.
He didn't care about the words and gestures or about the condolences or the sadness on other people's faces. He kept his cool, his control, and his mask, his face showing nothing more than polite interest at most. Perhaps he looked cold, harder than normal, but honestly he didn't care. This was not his goodbye and he refused to let emotions that were private be shown in public.
Instead he walked around the reception with an air of indifference, reminding himself to thank Tracey for the work she had done in planning this. He had had nothing to do with it, had ignored it as much as he could. He would ignore it now if form would let him, but he was raised too well to think that it would.
As he spoke to those he had to, he avoided others. The Weasleys, there to support Parvati. Parvati herself whose mere appearance now seemed to taunt him. He was also sure she would not appreciate the utter lack of anything Hindu or Indian, witnessing of Padma's heritage. Theo had not asked for it, Tracey had most likely not through of it. Theo didn't care.
He hadn't even thought to inform her relatives about her passing. It all seemed so far away. So…pointless.
He sighed, taking a glass of champagne from a passing tray, faking another nod accepting another false offer of sadness and grief. Most of all he wanted to leave. And so he nodded, excused himself and moved on, his face never expressing any emotion. Sometime he wondered if it ever would again. He almost hoped not.
