Summary: Marietta needs someone to take care of her son – who better than his father?
As the sun rose on the morning after the funeral, Marietta wasn't sure what to do. In the bed behind her, still shaded from the sun was Aiden, soundly asleep. It was a scene that at once filled her with warmth and worry.
Warmth because even though she'd never really had him live with her, she did care for her son. Worry because even though she cared for him he was a problem – a threat to her plans. To her pending marriage.
'If he wasn't so conservative,' she whispered to the sleeping boy.
Only he was, the man who'd asked her to marry him. Which was why she'd hid her past. Her life as a prostitute, her child out of wedlock. He'd frown on it, reject her, and she couldn't allow that. Not when she was finally going to have that money she wanted, needed, deserved.
But what was she going to do with the boy? She couldn't just leave him. Things weren't as easy now, when her mother was no longer alive to care for him. Who was going to do it now?
She looked at her son, the red hair – a gift from her, though lighter than her own was. His eyes were closed but she knew the colour, the vivid blue – not her own green. His father's eyes.
That made a knut drop. His father!
She remembered the radio show, the one she'd felt had taken her back-up plan away from her. Cass in a relationship! With a man no less. But now it didn't seem like such a curse anymore.
If he was in a relationship he could take care of his son. Marietta smirked. This would work out after all. She would marry, have her money, and maybe one day in a few years she wouldn't have to worry about her husband any more. Then she could take Aiden back with her.
In the mean time it was time his father took some responsibility. She was still smiling when she reached for the parchment.

Cass,
I'm so sorry I haven't been in touch in forever but my poor aunt needed a lot more attention than I could ever dream of. So imagine my surprise when I heard your name on the radio!
A relationship? Seriously, did you miss me that much?
Just kidding, of course. Though it did get me thinking, and I realise haven't been fair to you. You see, there is something I never dared to tell you, mostly because I didn't think you'd be ready. But I guess if you can manage a relationship you can manage a bit of responsibility too.
You have a son, Cass. His name is Aiden and he just turned six years old. I am sorry that I haven't told you before, but first you went away and I didn't see you for five years and then with the way you reacted to Miles finding out about Liam, could you ever blame me for being nervous?
However, I want to make it up to you, and I think it's important that your son gets to know his father. Therefore, I have decided that it's best for all of us that Aiden goes to live with you for a while. I will spend that time arranging things after my mother's death, and of course I'll write to the boy and he can write back with a little help.
I'll have him in Hogsmeade by next week, I hope that is all right with everyone.
Kisses (or aren't you allowed them any more?),
Marietta
