That was the problem. Cass didn't know what was right. Even if they found another child - or even children (the thought made him shiver) - what then? They could hardly barge in at the mother's house and demand visitation rights to a child who didn't know him.
How would a child, a child that might not even be that young but perhaps as old as 12, react if a strange man had suddenly appeared in his home saying he was his, or her, father? Could he even consider doing it to someone.
'I don't know what's right, Percy,' he said tiredly. 'Even if there would be a child, which I doubt, but even if there were, perhaps they're better off without me?'
