Summary: Theo goes to see Rodolphus, to give information, to get permission and to gain knowledge
Until he found himself standing in the middle of the nearly deserted village, the evidence of the fires and destruction still so clear to see, Theo had never really thought about what the attack had meant for those living in those houses. Maybe it was because his own home had never been eaten by fire, but the reality of the situation had never occurred to him. Not even if as he intellectually of course understood the ramifications of the attack.
Still, he could not help but to feel he understood more of what it meant as he walked through the village to the still mainly unharmed manor. He knew (again intellectually) of course that his godfather didn't use the manor any more as there were still risks involved (his intelligence said that there was someone watching over the village – or rather as they saw it, empty plains – at all times, though it had not been confirmed yet), but to know and to realise were apparently even to someone like Theodore Nott very different things, and he didn't know how he felt about the emptiness of the place as he knocked on the door and waited for the elf to let him in.
Still, as he walked into the house, and followed the elf to the study he knew so well, he let all the strangeness of this situation leave him. He was there to perform a task – as always. To give Rodolphus the information that didn't matter, that they wanted him to have, and walk out with more information than he'd had walking in. It was a tightrope, and one he needed to perfect every time he was there least he fell. And hence, he was at the top of his game, as usual, as he walked through the door and smiled at his godfather.
'Rodolphus,' he said, the warmth of his voice sincere. 'It's been too long, how are you?'
