'I sent her an owl every week, she always answered - this time the owl came back with nothing, but I... well I assumed it was Umbridge, which would have been a problem but not one I couldn't deal with. I should have thought further than that, but we were swamped at the time and well-' he looked down onto his hands, then focused on Miles again.
'I think his words went somewhat along the lines of How do you sleep at night, with a Weasley in your bed followed up by a people talk in the pub which of course was bullshit since no one knew and a very quick add on of Lestrange got your mother.'
He looked at Cormac. 'I think it was the way in which he said it that made me believe he knew, I think he believed it was a proven fact himself because Miles doesn't bluff very well. After all, there is a reason we all know he's a Death Eater even though he tries to hide it.'
'And yes, that was sort of the point in having her pretend to be my mum. And to keep this sort of thing from happening. Miles pretty fast cleared up that it was my actual mother he was talking about though, and then came the demands. Information. Schedules, plans, he wanted everything. And he wanted me to spy on Percy.'
He sighed, leaning back onto the pillows. 'Hell even if he had been wrong about us to being together it would have been bad enough. We tried to hide it but anyone following me around would have known without a shadow of a doubt that I spent all my nights in Percy's house. And that I tried to cover it up by flying rounds to my flat every morning and evening. I was careful though, so I doubt it was one person following me. It can't have been, that I would have noticed.'
