Cass made a face of disgust when Cormac told him about the creep he'd caught, almost shuddering. 'I'm glad you caught the bastard,' he said.
He sighed and nodded when Cormac demanded specifics. 'I can't tell you the date off the top of my head, I hardly know today's date,' he said. 'I think it was the first of June, could have been the second or the last of May too. I have it in my calendar in the flat,' he specified.
'As for the owl, I can only say what mine said and I don't think that was the one intercepted. It would have been useless anyway, I always charmed them to only show for mum...though of course she couldn't do the same and she always ended her letters with Love from your mother. I tried making her use her name once long ago, but she always refused.' He paused, finding it hard to move on, though he knew it was important and he couldn't let himself get lost in the could have beens.
'The first meeting was at Miles' manor, in his study. I was there for a drink, a belated birthday drink, he'd said. Come to think of it I'm fairly sure it was the first. Anyway, he started telling me that Daphne, his wife, is pregnant. I thought that was the point until he mentioned Percy.'
He bit his lip, this was sensitive, and well he was used to not talk about it. 'Had I been smarter I would have denied it, but I was so stunned, and then he went right on and told me that Lestrange had my mother, which I of course thought meant that he'd taken Emilia...' he hesitated.
'I mentioned Emilia to you before right?' he asked. 'My Italian mother? Well "mother" he corrected himself.'
