Umbridge of course knew the moment the witch knocked on her door a minute after the agreed on time. She pondered that for a moment, deciding it was acceptable.
Of course she did not rise to get the door, there were others for that. Her assistants weren't well paid, the Ministry did not have that big a budget, but they were desperate, and worked well under her watchful eye. They knew they would be severely punished if they did not.
In her inner mind's eye she could see the woman be led through the front room where her assistants sat, to the back, to her office. She imagined the raised hand from her assistant, and just then there was a knock on the door.
'Do come in, Miss Jones,' she said sweetly, even before the assistant had started to speak. She gestured towards the chair in front of her desk. 'Tea?' she then asked. There was no need to be impolite after all.
