Guilian had always been able to discuss things logically with his father, and when he had a difference of opinion, he'd always managed to hold a rational discussion. He didn't so much fear his father, as respect him. But in this, he knew he had to stay away from the family.
He was still shaking his head, even as his father just said he would go home. That's when he mentioned that Verity was there, and then twins, and nieces. "What?" he said in confusion. "Verity's expecting?" A ripple of jealousy flew through him, and it flared the darkness to life. His jealousy at his brother was something that he thought he'd overcome, but obviously not. "Even more reason I should stay away." It pained him to say it, but it was true, for their safety.
He dug in his heels, his even gaze meeting his father's. "I will not cease my business dealings simply because you don't like the decision I've made, and want me to come home like an errant schoolboy." His own temper was kept in check - Guilian was, after all, his father's son.
He was almost expecting his father to revoke his trust. He'd expected that the minute he'd learned Cass had sent a letter home. "Well I'm fortunate that you've taught me enough to be self sufficient." His own finances were certainly not lacking. He did not need his trust to live on.
Shaking his head, he gave his father his final answer. "I am my own man, and I'll be where I want to be, not where you tell me to be any more."
