RP: A visit to the healer and good news to share
Date: 10 June 2006
Characters: Morag Dolohova, Heather Jones, Antonin Dolohov
Location: Heather's house (aka Anthony's old house) in Hogsmeade first, then Antonin's house on Dippett Drive
Private/Public: Private
Rating: tbd
Warnings: tbd
Summary: Morag goes to see Heather to find out if she's truly pregnant. Because how could she not know that? She's a Ravenclaw, for Merlin's sake, and trained in observation! Once she gets her good news, she sets out to tell Antonin.

Morag straightened her robes, trying not to notice that the walk into town had made her more tired than it should have. After smoothing her hair (or getting it away from her warm and slightly moist face, more like), she knocked on the door to Anthony's old house.

She wasn't sure if it would be better have Heather confirm that she was pregnant, or not. She didn't like this tiredness, and if it was pregnancy then.... But if she wasn't pregnant and was still this tired, then that was a problem. Possibly an even bigger one.

Oh, Merlin, she didn't know what to think! She'd meant to get pregnant so she didn't know why the thought that she might already be pregnant was such a big deal to her. They'd made the decision quite some time ago, and if Tibby hadn't been killed, they might have already gotten pregnant on purpose. It wasn't like the universe, aka Antonin, was trying to pull something over on her.

With a sigh of frustration, she waited for an answer.

Heather rarely had slow weeks, so when she did she made the most out of it. She was sitting on the couch, relaxing and finishing a cup of tea when she heard the knock at the door.

She opened the door and smiled at Morag. "Hello, Morag. Come in." She stepped aside to allow her to enter.

Morag looked up when the door opened, alert even though she doubted there was need. When she was Heather, she smiled. 'Thank you for doing this, Heather,' she said as she stepped into the house.

She'd been there before when Anthony lived there, and it looked similar even though there had been two others in the house since.

Heather closed the door. "It's my pleasure. Let's go to the exam room and I'll perform the test so you find out once and for all if your pregnant."

She led her to an extra room, that she'd converted into an exam room. She'd always had a small practice and did a lot of exams in her patient's homes, but she did like to have a clinic in her home.

"Why don't you lie on the exam table and I'll perform the test. It only takes a moment."

Morag nodded, feeling a little...nervous. Heather led her to a room she'd not been in before, and Morag could see it had been turned into one she could use for her healing practice.

'If I'm not,' she said as she entered the room, 'could you maybe make sure that I'm okay to try to get pregnant?' she asked. Her thoughts were in such a turmoil. First she wanted to get pregnant, then she was upset because she might be. But now that the time was there, she was worried that she wasn't.

She was a mess, she decided.

Morag looked at the table a moment and nodded slowly. What if she wasn't pregnant? Her brow wrinkled slightly, and she moved forward, hoisting herself to the table with less ease than she might have a month or two before.

If she wasn't pregnant, she'd better get in shape before she was, she decided. If she wasn't, she was more out of shape than she'd been in her life.

She reached up and rubbed her forehead. Her heart was beating a little faster, and she had butterflies in her stomach. She had an odd taste at the back of her throat.

Oh, Merlin, she was nauseous!

Heather could tell Morag was very nervous, which was the reaction that she saw from most women she performed the test on. She pulled her wand and walked over to the side of the table.

"There is nothing to be nervous about." she said trying to sound reassuring. She waved her wand over her stomach and smiled when the spell glowed a positive result. She smiled at Morag. "Well you're definitely pregnant."

Morag took a deep breath. 'Oh, I'm not worried about the test itself,' she told Heather. 'I....don't know exactly what I'm worried about,' she admitted. 'I think, maybe, I'm worried that I'm not really pregnant,' she added softly, admitting it as much to herself as to Heather.

Morag's eyes grew wide. 'I am?' she whispered in awe. 'I really am?' A myriad of expressions crossed her face. She felt something brush against her abdomen and realized her hand had moved to where the baby was hidden. 'A baby?' she whispered, taking a breath. 'When?'

Heather loved when someone finds out they are going to have a baby. The reactions were always a little different but the joy that was there was infectious. "You really are."

When Morag asked when started running her wand over her again. She took the measurements of the baby, to determine just how far along she was. "Well, it looks like you are almost three months along. You are due mid September. Would you like to hear the baby's heartbeat?"

Morag's hand rubbed lightly over her stomach. 'A baby,' she repeated to herself in wonder. Her lips curved into an amazed grin.

But Heather's next news surprised her even more. 'Three....months????' she repeated, astonished. 'How could I be three months pregnant?' she asked in consternation. 'It's just probably a big baby. Antonin's tall,' she said. She could not possibly be three months pregnant. 'How could I be pregnant for three months and not know????' she asked.

She was going to have a baby in little more than three months. Three short little months....

'Heartbeat?' she repeated without noticing. The sound caught her attention. 'It has a heartbeat already?' she said in surprise.

Heather could tell she was shocked but it wasn't too surprising with the things she'd been through. "You've had a lot of stress lately and that can affect you physically."

She chuckled at her trying to find a rational explanation for how far along she was. "He might be but there are other development markers I use to tell how far along you are."

She nodded. "It does." She amplified the heartbeat so she could hear the fast beat of the tiny heart better.

Heather pointed out the stress she'd been under and that the baby was definitely already three months along, and Morag realized she'd been pregnant through all of it. Horrified, she breathed, 'Is it okay? I mean, I would have been pregnant during that last battle. And during that time after Tibby died when I couldn't eat or sleep and I was swimming laps to try to tire myself out enough to not dream. And when Antonin gave me the Dreamless Sleep potions. Oh, gods, Heather, check me out! I have to know the baby wasn't hurt by all that!'

Morag lay back against the exam table and put her arm over her head. 'Oh, Merlin, I was pregnant before Tibby died. I could have told him....he would have been so happy!' she moaned, bitterly regretting that Tiberius had missed the chance to hear the news.

'I'm sorry....' she whispered, trying to get hold of her emotions. 'Please make sure the baby is alright!'

As Heather went about her work, Morag's storm of emotions calmed and she listened to the sound of her little one's heart beating with awe. 'Can you tell if it's a boy or a girl?' she asked.

Heather placed her hand on Morag's arm. "Calm down, I'll run some more tests just to be on the safe side but from what I'm seeing everything looks just fine."

Heather performed several tests checking for every possible problem. They all came out negative. "The baby is fine. If at all possible, I would recommend avoiding the battles from now on. Certain spells can harm the baby. Plus, you may notice that your magic can be affected and I'm sure you wouldn't want that to happen on the battlefield."

Heather smiled at the question. "I can. Would you like to know now?"

Morag took a deep breath and let Heather do her work, watching her face anxiously in case she found something wrong. When Heather said the baby was fine, Morag felt the tension leave her body and for a moment she lay against the table with her eyes closed.

She immediately tried to think of ways she could still fight without using magic, but it probably wasn't the spells that she would use that were dangerous so much as the ones that might be used against her, and she couldn't control that. She toyed with the idea of spell resistant armor, but that would have to be constantly expanded to fit her, she thought.

She and Antonin were going to have to discuss this, she decided.

Morag thought for a moment. 'Maybe I should wait for Antonin?' she mused aloud. She bit her lip. 'But I do want to know....' she told herself. 'But....'

Heather could tell that Morag was much more relaxed now, which was good. It was much better for the baby to have a relaxed Mum.

Heather remembered this decision well and knew that it was a difficult one to make. "If you think he'd like to be here then I would wait. If you want him to be here but can't wait to find out. I could always run the test tomorrow or even later today."

Morag's face scrunched up as she thought. 'I should give him the chance to be here, I suppose.' She giggled. 'Especially since he didn't get to hear the news from you himself....'

She probably should feel bad about that, but she didn't. She thought about walking back to the Morrigan to tell him the news and then traipsing all the way back to Hogsmeade. And back to the boat, and she decided that was just too far to do so many times.

'Could I interest you in a dip in the pool?' she asked Heather. 'I could send word to Antonin to meet me at the house, and we could swim for a bit there....'

Heather smiled. "You really should. I'm sure he'd love to be here when you find out."

Heather had to think about it for a moment. She had patients later or she would love to. "I would love to but I have a couple of patients I need to check on. Maybe some other time?"

'You're right,' Morag agreed, feeling more resolute in her decision to wait.

She was disappointed that Heather didn't have the time to go swimming, but now that she'd thought of the idea, she rather liked it. She'd go to the house and send word to Antonin to come join her there.

Smiling she said, 'I'll hold you to that! Thank you so much, Heather. Is there anything else I should know? Anything I should do or....' She shrugged, overwhelmed. There was so much. Obviously, a book was a much needed investment.

Heather smiled. "You're very welcome and congratulations."

She walked to the cabinet and took out a vial of prenatal vitamin potion. She handed it to Morag. "This is a prenatal vitamin potion. Take a swallow from it a day. It doesn't matter the time of day, but it is best if it's around the same time each day."

Morag smiled, feeling a little shy about it. 'Thank you,' she said. It wasn't like she'd done anything herself, been actively involved or the like, since she hadn't even known she was pregnant. Then she almost snorted. Of course she'd been actively involved! She just hadn't realized the extent of it, at the time.

She took the bottle of potion and slipped it into a pocket. 'We'll arrange to come back soon, I'm sure,' she said. 'But other than to find out whether it's a boy or a girl, when do I need to be back to see you?' she asked.

Three months. She was going to have a baby in three months.... She couldn't quite get her mind around it.

Her stomach growled. 'Oh!' she cried. 'Should I be worried that I'm eating more than usual? I mean, a lot more than usual? Am I gaining too much weight?' she asked. 'Can I still train? Or...' she frowned, 'at least get some exercise?' She supposed the little mound she'd thought was just too much tummy actually had a purpose, but she didn't want to overdo.

Heather thought for a moment. "Come back in two weeks. You're doing fine and I want to make sure you stay that way."

Heather chuckled. "No, you shouldn't, if you're hungry eat. You're not gaining just the right amount of weight, so don't worry. You can exercise normally, just don't get over heated or exert yourself too much."

Morag nodded. And by the time she returned in two weeks, she decided, she would have read some books so she knew what to ask. 'Can we talk about water births then?' she inquired.

She breathed a sigh of relief. Really, it would have been bad if she was eating too much because she was hungry so often! She would just make sure she was getting some exercise, enough to keep in good shape so she didn't have too much trouble getting back after she had the baby.

She suspected, though, that what she decided would be how it was wouldn't quite work out the way she'd planned, but she'd cross that bridge when she came to it.

'Okay,' she said. A swim in the lake wouldn't overheat her, not as cool as the water was. And the walk into town and back would be good exercise. She might have to stop at the house or at a friend's to rest.

'Thank you again, Heather,' she said as she slipped off the examination table.

Morag was brimming with excitement as she took her leave of Heather, barely noticing the walk to the house on Dippett Drive. She let herself in and called Katya, heading into the kitchen to see if there was anything she might eat.

Thankfully, the elves had instructions to keep the larder stocked in case of unexpected guests, and Morag pulled out some cheese and mayonnaise, setting a charm on the grater to shred some cheese for her.

Katya popped in, and Morag sent her to the boat to pick something up for her, and to tell Antonin to meet her at the house on Dippett.

When Katya left, Morag took the grated cheese and mixed it with the mayonnaise, adding in some drained pineapple chunks and chopped green olives. She set the spoon to mixing and got out some bread. Deciding that the mixture could be stirred more, she left the spoon at work and went up to her rooms where Katya had left what she had requested she get.

Changing quickly, Morag grabbed a couple of towels and went down to the kitchen, planning to make herself a sandwich with the cheese spread. At the last minute, she added some chopped up boiled egg that she found and let the spoon stir some more.

Getting two slices of bread, she made herself a sandwich with the cheese spread, putting a couple of sliced pickles in, as well. She started to summon the Ogden's but thought better of it. Making a face, she filled a glass with milk. She'd have to find something better soon, but it would do for now.

In her little red bikini, she carried her booty down to the pool, settling onto the step to eat her sandwich and wait for Antonin.

Antonin was sitting on the dock, watching the construction, when Ekatarina popped in to tell him Morag wanted to see him. Giving his weapons a quick check, and summoning his sword-cane, he set off at a brisk walk for #1 Dippett.

Checking the wards when he arrived at the house, he went upstairs, then down to the pool to find Morag. "You wanted to see me about something, dear lady?" he asked with a smile.

Morag's mouth was full when Antonin came in. That's always how it happens, she thought to herself. You stuff food in your mouth and someone comes in or asks you a question....

She put her hand up to cover her mouth as she turned to face him. 'Want a sammich?' she mumbled around what was in her mouth.

Rolling her eyes at the garbled sound, she held up a finger while she chewed and swallowed and then took a drink of milk. 'Would you like a sandwich?' she repeated more clearly. 'There's more cheese spread up in the kitchen.' Deciding he might be more tempted if she elaborated, she added, 'Cheddar, mayo, pineapple, green olives, boiled egg, and pickle.'

Antonin chuckled at Morag's choice of meals. If his suspicions weren't true, he was sending her to culinary school.

"Thank you, but no," he replied with a smile. "Something about pickles and pineapple together have never really appealed to me. I'll see what I can put together later. What can I do for you?"

Morag looked at him with a frown. 'Really?' she said. She'd thought it was yummy, but now that she thought about it, it did seem an odd combination. 'Well, the pickles just went in at the last moment. They aren't in the spread. I just added them to my sandwich,' she told him.

'I thought I might talk you into a swim,' she told him. She was a little leery of getting out of the pool. The red bikini had sounded like a good idea, but she hadn't fit into it either half the same way she used to, and she was feeling a little self-conscious.

Which was not a feeling she was used to, and she didn't care for it at all.

Morag laughed. Her head tilted to the side, she watched, her eyes appreciative. 'Oh, you know me,' she told him. 'I always have any number of things in mind, at any given moment,' she teased.

She stepped back into the water, leaving him room to use the steps if he so desired. 'I like this pool,' she told him unnecessarily. 'It has good memories attached.' She let her arms float on top of the water, idly moving them back and forth. 'I always like this suit, too. I'm glad you found another. If I hadn't tried it own when I found it several weeks ago, though, I'd have thought you'd gotten the wrong size.'

Morag had to smile, and it was a big and beautiful one because Antonin always managed to say just the right thing. And she felt wonderful. And happy. She was very, very happy. 'It was a wonderful night,' she agreed. 'I'll never forget it.'

She moved nearer to him. 'I meant to recreate it,' she told him. 'To some purpose,' she added, 'in that we were talking about trying to have a baby, and I thought that might be the perfect send off, so to speak.' She grinned up at am. 'But it will work just as well for another purpose.' She gave him an amused glare. 'And why are you still out there and I'm in here?' she quipped, putting her hands on her hips.

'No, it was the right size, I think,' she replied. 'I tried it on when I found it. It just seems that I'm not the right size, any more.' She raised her eyebrows in a who knew kind of expression.

At Morag's words, Antonin walked down the steps to the pool into the water, and wrapped his arms around Morag. "Another purpose, dear lady?"

Morag tilted her head to look up at him. 'It seems I was too tardy on the original plans,' she told him dryly, rolling her eyes with a slight smirk. 'And you need to see a healer because your charms are wonky,' she added, raising a brow.

She cocked her head to the side. 'So how long does it take to baby proof a sailboat?' she asked. 'Just because it's going to be able to breathe underwater doesn't mean I want to have to search the entire ocean for him or her when it falls overboard....'

'And you knew!' she accused when she saw the lack of surprise in his eyes. 'I knew you did! Damn, it's not like me to be so unobservant!' she remarked, shaking her head.

"Since I began to suspect," Antonin told Morag with a smile, "I've checked the charm three times. It is still working. Apparently, when you decide to get pregnant, you decide to get pregnant. A little thing like a contraception charm won't stand in your way."

"Not long at all," he kissed Morag on her upturned forehead. "You'll note that none of the children fell over the side the other night."

"Rather say, I suspected strongly," Antonin said with a wry grin. "I had two possible choices, you were pregnant, or there is some troll somewhere in your line, and you were adapting their eating habits. But, you'll be happy to know those candies you've been swiping from my desk are prenatal vitamins."

Antonin bent down to whisper in Morag's ear, before kissing it, "Have I told you yet today how much I love you?"

Morag started to object, even opening her mouth to tell him it absolutely had to be his fault somehow, but the idea that she had made the decision to get pregnant was far more appealing than the idea that she had inadvertently gotten that way. She closed her mouth, deciding she would take the credit. Antonin got the blame and she took the credit...that's the way things were supposed to be, she decided.

'True,' she allowed, 'but we weren't sailing at the time. Still,' she tilted her head to look sternly at him, 'I trust you. What about where we will put said baby? I don't remember having a nursery or anything like it put in when we did the work on the Morrigan.'

Morag's mouth dropped open and she gave him an affronted look. 'Troll?????' she screeched. 'Now, that's just plain mean!' she protested. 'Troll, indeed,' she muttered sourly to herself. She hadn't eaten anything all that awful, had she?

She started to giggle but after a moment began to feel a little alarmed. 'But I've eaten a ton of those things!' she told him. 'Can you overdose on vitamins?????'

She shifted her head when his breath tickled it. 'No, you haven't,' she pointed out. 'And it would be a really good time,' she added.

"I thought we'd keep a crib in our cabin for a while so we could share the late night wakeups. Later, when the little one is sleeping most of the night, I'll have one of the cabins aft of the lower salon converted to a suitable child's quarters." Antonin smiled wistfully, "Something to make our little boy our girl the envy of other children with clever built-in furniture and things."

He started laughing at Morag's screech. "Only a small troll. It isn't that you've been eating a lot, just some rather peculiar combinations lately."

"You've always swiped the candy from my desk. I just estimated how many you usually had during a day and had them made up so that totaled an average dose."

Antonin pulled Morag close, "I love you, and think you are the most wonderful and cleverest woman there has ever been. No man could be happier than I am with you."

Morag nodded thoughtfully, smiling at Antonin's desire to make their child the envy of others. As if living on a pirate ship wouldn't do that on its own!

'They're not peculiar!' she protested. 'Just unusual!' She was relieved that she hadn't been overdosing their child on vitamins, though. 'Heather gave me a potion,' she informed him. 'It's....' She looked at him blankly. 'In my pocket,' she remembered.

'I don't know how clever I've been, considering I'm three months pregnant and didn't know it until today,' she told him with a slightly embarrassed expression.

'I never thought you'd be a coward about your food!' Morag protested a little sourly. It hadn't been that bad! She knew it hadn't!

'Right! The ones I left...upstairs.' Morag brightened as she remembered where said potion was. 'But I know where it is,' she informed him.

She shook her head. 'Maybe. I have really been avoiding thinking about myself and how I feel,' she admitted. 'Anything out of the ordinary, I put down to stress and ignored because it made me think about Tiberius.' She sighed. The problem with not being intensely close to many people was that when you lost one of them, it hurt that much more.

She leaned against Antonin, taking strength from him for a moment. 'It still hurts, you know. Knowing that Lucius is also dead doesn't make it one bit less painful....'

"Speaking of Mr. Ogden, although I know you've had a lot going on with your life lately, have you considered what sort of a memorial to him you'd like to see?"

Antonin smiled at Morag, "And have you decided if you want to depose this Umbridge woman and make a try at setting up your own Ministry for the British?"

"At the least," he said with a laugh, "you might consider contributing spurious directives to all those that seem to be cropping up in Hogsmeade."

Morag closed her eyes for a moment. 'No,' she whispered. 'I haven't wanted to think about it,' she admitted. It would be a sort of final goodbye, one she hadn't been ready to make. But life did go on, didn't it? 'I wish I could have told him,' she told Antonin, 'about the baby. He would have been so happy for us....' Of that she had no doubt.

She giggled. She'd been surprised that Umbridge hadn't made herself more of a nuisance in the past few weeks. It was unlike the woman to be so....reticent.

Morag lifted her head and stared at Antonin for a moment. 'Oh, but that would be priceless!' she answered. 'Something like everyone must wear pink on even numbered Tuesdays?'

"You might have a bit of time for the next few months to work on things like that. I'm assuming you'll have to curtail some of your more athletic endeavors for that long, at least. Designing and supervising the construction of the Ogden Ministry of Magic building might give you something to do to pass the time. And, you'll be able to decorate your new office to your liking."

Oh, dear," Antonin chuckled. "I don't think either of us would look good in pink. Whatever amuses you, though. Hmmm..." he wrinkled his brow for a few seconds of thought. "Either really silly things signed by the so-called acting minister, or strong and logical postings by the 'Minister of Magic' - no acting at all - either would seem to help set the stage to make life difficult for the Umbridge woman."

'Yeah, about that,' Morag frowned. 'Heather said I should stay out of fighting types of situations. She said some of the spells that might be cast could be hazardous to the baby....' Morag looked up at Antonin, the frown still on her face. 'She says I can still do things as long as I don't overdo. But I think I've already lost my edge. Walking to town was really a chore,' she had to admit, but making a face to indicate she wasn't happy about admitting it.

She gave him a frank appraisal. 'You would look better, I think. It clashes with my hair frightfully....' Then she giggled.

Well, getting bounced around the way we sometimes do in a fight could hardly be good for the little one, could it?" Antonin asked Morag calmly. "Then too, there's the chance of getting blindsided with something serious. No, I think we'll both sit out the fighting for the next few months, unless it is a real emergency."

"And you have hardly lost your edge," he continued. "You have a big drain on your energy there, in more ways than one. Pick up a broom, or use one of the carpets, if you absolutely must go into town."

"Pink might not class with my hair," Antonin laughed, "but it would certainly clash with my sense of style. The idea of directives from the Minister of Magic might have some merit to it, and it will give you something fun to do while you are slowed down a bit."

She'd been hoping he might come up with a miraculous way for her to fight safely. Not that there was one, if she were being realistic. She'd known that when they first talked about having a baby, that she'd have to sit out for awhile. Still, talking about it in the abstract wasn't quite the same thing as being faced with three months of it to get through.

'Maybe the Death Eaters won't want to do any fighting?' she said hopefully. Yes, and pigs would fly through Muggle London.

'You know, you mentioned that some at Dolohov might be enjoy a nice little battle or so. Think we might convince some of them to portkey up for the next battle?' she suggested. Someone ought to get to enjoy it, at least.

She nodded. Actually, she was sure that Umbridge would hate the idea of someone using a carpet. That, in itself, was enough to make her want to do it.

Grinning at him, she ran her fingers through his hair. 'Oh, I don't know. You could carry off pink, if you wanted. You're Antonin Dolohov, after all....' she told him.

'And it would give me something to do, wouldn't it?' she agreed. 'Something quite entertaining, I admit.'

"Ive noticed the Lestranges seem to be having less fun on the battlefield whenever we both are there," Antonin chuckled. "For some reason, they all keep running away from us."

"If I didn't think it would cause some long-term political repercussions from the British wizarding population - these British seem to be dreadfully territorial - I might think bringing a few hundred old friends and family to the next fight."

"One of a number of possible things you could do," Antonin told Morag. "And posting directives would be amusing for just about everybody except for Umbridge."

Morag laughed and laid her head on Antonin's chest. 'They do do a lot of running, don't they?' she giggled. 'And I suppose you're right. Shame, though, everyone missing out on all that fun. Imagine the Toad's face!'

'I do love the way your mind works,' she told him.
