Cass looked at Miles, then shook his head and looked back down. 'No,' he then answered, a sigh on his lips. But then nothing was going to make this easy. He tried to shake it off all the same.
'I'll be myself soon enough. Emotions and commitment just aren't my things, right?' he said, though even to him the words sounded hollow and false. He'd make himself believe them, though. At least make himself believe them enough to convince everyone else of them.
Why was he sitting here drinking with Miles anyway? He should be at home, where no one but Susan could reach him. At least he could trust Susan not to run to the Lestranges with any information he might give.
