Summary: Guilian runs into Rabastan at the Casino, only to learn his owl never made it. Rabastan notices a change in Guilian, and sees a potential opportunity.
Guilian thought he'd feel nothing but relief after the completion of his distasteful mission for Rabastan Lestrange. It was over now, done, and dusted, yet he found no solace or rest.
Sleep was hard to come by, and when it did, it was interrupted by the siren song of dark magic that called to him. Its begging cries to be let loose echoed on his conscience, and he sought instead to lose himself in other pursuits. Working his way through the wine cellar of the Casino seemed like one very good pursuit, and at least that helped to dull the pain that came when he tried to drown out the sound of the voices.
Casting the killing curse on small animals was nothing compared to casting it on a person - on a wizard - no less. He remembered the lessons well from Durmstrang - the warnings given about the use of such magic. But only now did he truly understand what it meant. He'd been lured back then, his professors warning him of the dangers, and to keep himself away from it. He thought he was strong enough, but now, it seemed that since he'd had a taste, he didn't want to stop. Even though he knew he must, the lure was there, and he knew it was trying to reel him in.
The Casino was quiet here during the lunch period - only a few old members were there for casual meetings with clients, or just smoke cigars and slowly drink old port. He'd been keeping to his room since returning, but he ventured down only now to see if a change of scenery would help quell his restlessness. He really wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone - and those that thought to approach him turned and found somewhere else to be when he looked up at them and gave a daring glare that spoke volumes.
It would be just his luck for his father to be here, only he knew that he never came on Fridays. The part of him that wanted to go running home was not entirely sure he was actually ready to face his father, or his mother, for that matter. No matter how much he missed them, and the warmth and security of the family home, he didn't deserve that now. But given time, the itch and pain of what he'd done might be just dull enough for him to return.
If anyone who truly knew him were to see him now, they'd think he'd aged considerably. Gone was the boy, and any last vestiges of the innocence on his face had been blown away, the bags under his eyes and the casual unkemptness in his grooming speaking volumes about his mental state. Nobody could do what he'd done, and come away without being affected. Nobody could do it and go back to who they were. If only there was something he could do to bring himself back to who he was - or at least a semblance of who he thought he should be.
As Guilian was lost in such thoughts, his inner turmoil evident on his face, he did not notice that he was being watched; that someone else had noticed him, and was watching him with a keen regard as he knocked back his drink a little too quickly.
