Millicent looked up when he told her he could make her something to help her sleep. Perhaps she wouldn't need to go to Orla if he did? The thought brought a new level of hope, but just as fast as it had arrived, it vanished.
It wasn't the sleeping potion she really craved after all.
'Thanks, but I'd rather not take any potions,' she said instead, shaking her head. 'The healers just took me off the ones they gave me after...' She wasn't fully prepared for the lump to form in her throat and had to take a deep breath before going on, changing the subject.
'You're too kind,' she said instead, trying to smile when he offered her to come in later. 'I don't know why you put up with me, but being able to come in later would help, I think.' She hoped. She needed this job, needed to keep things together. Even when everything around her seemed to fall apart.
