Miles just watched Cass carefully, expecting his mood to turn at any moment. But he did have a point. "Yeah, you're right. They'd know, and then we're all dead." There was no doubt in his mind that he'd be the one expected to kill him, too.
He gave Cass the time to let this sink in, and he could see the blood had drained from his face.
"It wasn't supposed to be like this, Cass. I sure as hell don't want to be the niffler in the middle of all this, and yet if you screw up, I'm either going to be expected to kill you, or be killed in the process. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."
