RP: A watched pot never boils Date: 19 January 2006 Characters: Padma and her thoughts, (Theo and Parvati can add theirs if they wish as well) Location: Forter Castle Private/Public: Private Rating: general Warnings: - Summary: Padma's due date has come and gone, and still no baby.
So it was official. This baby was never going to come. It was all a huge false alarm. It had to be, Padma was sure of it.
Padma's due date had come, and gone, with little to no fanfare. Well if you call no sleep, constant worry and regular kicking of her insides no fanfare, then all was normal.
She had deluded herself that this child would adhere to punctuality just as much as its father. She knew how Theo hated to wait for anything, and she was just as impatient. But even so, this child was not going to follow any schedule. Although to be fair, the baby's head was engaged and in the right position to be born... just no go. She honestly didn't know how Muggle women could do this for nine months.
She sighed, unable to truly move. If she sat up, she'd have to go to the bathroom. If she moved, then the little one would simply kick something, or press against her bladder or her spine, and she was uncomfortable again. She hadn't slept the night through since Christmas.
But the worry of the actual birth was what she kept to herself, even if she knew that Theo and Parvati (and oh Merlin, Mimsy) were all keeping their own worried counsel. She'd taken to talking to Parvati about all the mothercraft they had been taught as children - with their extended family of cousins and friends, there were always babies around back in Mumbai, and they had been exposed to so many children.
Just when she let out a long breath as she found a moment of peaceful rest, the little one kicked, and she felt the need to get up again and go to the bathroom. There was a well worn trail to the bathroom already, and Padma wished it wasn't the only exercise she got.
Yep, definitely the novelty of this whole pregnancy had worn very, very thin. All she could do now was urge the child to come through sheer force of will. Of course, like a watched cauldron, this child was never going to make its presence known when anyone wanted it to.
