RP & Owl: And so he takes a break.
Date: 7 May 2006 Characters: Blaise Zabini, Padma Patil Location: Manor in England Private/Public: Private Rating: G Warnings: None Summary: Blaise contemplates the recent turn of events, and sets about planning for future ones.
He'd finally finished moving all his important belongings from the house in Upper Slaughter to his manor in the English countryside, arranging everything to his liking, which had unfortunately taken him longer than usual. One of his house elves had fallen ill, and it had been a mission all of its own to get the others to go about their work normally. It was strange enough - in all his years he'd never encountered an ill elf, though it would be amiss to think it so rare. They did an exemplary job of hiding themselves most of the time, after all.
On top of all this he'd just finished entertaining his mother for lunch, which she had demanded on since she would unfortunately be busy tomorrow on his birthday (for which he was somewhat grateful). Tomorrow he planned to celebrate the day completely alone, recommencing his studies. On that note he took another sip of cognac before placing the glass on a side table and summoning a quill and piece of parchment to him from his study down the hall.
Dearest Padma,
We spoke the past week on the subject of Stephen Cornfoot, and arranging a meeting in order to get his help in translating this scroll of mine. I'm finally finished with my moving about, so I'd like you to go ahead and plan a meeting with him. As I also mentioned, once I get the translation and figure everything out, I will of course discuss the process with you and give you some aide in furthering your own studies. Hopefully by the end of the season we will both be masters of the process and enjoying the fruits of our labours.
Thank you, and say hello to Theo for me,
Blaise
He read the note over carefully, ensuring that if anyone got a hold of it, the subject on which he spoke - the Animagus transfiguration, would not be obvious. Once he was satisfied he folded it and placed it in the adjacent envelope, and then called out to his eagle, who was currently sitting on its perch on the other side of the room. The bird flew over and sat on his arm, accepting the letter in return for a few strokes with his fingers. Unlike his owl, he could only speak to the eagle in Japanese, as it had been trained by his mother's family. He stuck to using it simply for personal mail that wouldn't require waiting for a return answer. The bird sometimes took days to return to him, as unlike the owl he owned, his eagle was more independent and preferred spending time outdoors on its own terms.
The bird took off suddenly, heading for the window and taking off in search of the letter's recipient. Blaise watched it soar away for a moment, before picking up his glass again and taking another sip. He was in no great rush to get a response, as he definitely needed some time to unwind before getting to his studies again.
There was the matter of Emma, after all. He'd intended to search her out upon his return and catch up with her, but he'd not yet had the chance. He supposed the first place he'd have to start would be the inn, as he was unsure if she was still living there or if she'd gotten herself a home of her own. Perhaps he'd take a trip tomorrow, if he grew too restless on his own.
