Pansy awoke in a panic at Hilly's urgent summons. She'd been having an odd dream about Polly. Polly was crying, but it didn't sound like her....or it was her only older....and Pansy couldn't find her no matter how hard she searched. She was out of the bed and on the way to the nursery before Hilly was able to get through to her that it was Miss Ella and not Polly who needed her.
Her heart pounding, Pansy listened to Hilly's question, already saying yes before she finished. After sending Hilly back to Harry to tell him to bring Ella to her room, Pansy hurriedly checked the room for anything she didn't want Ella (or Harry) to see, but there was nothing out of place because Hilly took too good of care of her to let that happen. Then she summoned extra pillows and set about making the bed look inviting.
It was only when she heard Harry's voice in the hall that she realized she didn't know what she herself looked like, whether she was a fright with circles under her eyes and mussed hair, or what. She straightened her silk pajamas and tried to arrange her hair as best she could without looking in those last few seconds before the door opened.
Then she completely forgot all about her appearance because Ella was there and had obviously been crying. Pansy hurried over, cooing sympathetically and looking at Harry with worried eyes.
