Summary: Morag is working on her reward idea when something distracts her.
Morag put the finishing touches on the reward notice she had created and surveyed her work, feeling a pleased giggle almost bubbling up inside. Not only might these offers create some positive flow of information, but the slight to Rab Lestrange amused her to no end. Morag just hoped it caused some strain between him and Lisa, to know that she had been valued at twice him.
She considered letting Antonin see the finished product, but they had already discussed what to put, and he’d given her some help with the phrasing, being more familiar with idea of bounties, so she decided to ask him to look it over would just be showing off on her part.
Instead, she poured over maps of Hogsmeade, Britain, and the bigger wizarding centers, and she marked all the places she wanted the notices put up. In the larger communities of wizarding folk, she’d inundate the area with notices…in the smaller, she’d just have them put up outside areas people tended to congregate: pubs, major shops, and the like. She’d even designated several European cities with large wizarding populations, just in case.
After she knew how many she’d need and where they were to go, Morag called Nikita. She explained what she wanted him to do and asked him to put some of the elves on the task for her. They could post the notices faster than she could. As she talked to him, her eyes kept coming back to a spot by the grate in her room that looked as if a stone had come loose. She had noticed the spot several times in the past but had never taken the time to fix it.
Once Nikita left the room, she decided if that stone was going to keep distracting her, she’d better go ahead and fix it and be done with it. But when she manipulated the stone to find out how best to repair it, the entire stone pulled out easily, almost as if it were supposed to do so. Morag stared the stone in her hand a moment, frowning. Then she looked at the opening it had left behind. There was something at the back of the opening, likely what had prevented the stone from fitting flush as the others did. She almost used a summoning spell, but as she didn’t know what was back there, she decided she might end up buried under the entire wall. Instead, she transfigured a pair of scissors from her desk into a large pair of tongs and used them to grab whatever it was.
What she pulled out was a soft package wrapped in brown paper and sealed with a simple magical charm that easily gave way under the finite incantatum. Beyond curious by then, Morag ripped open the package, bits of brown paper flying everywhere.
Confused, she lifted the pieces of red cloth that had been wrapped by the paper. As she raised them, they unfolded, turning out to be a simple red bikini.
A simple red bikini exactly like one she’d used to own before Antonin vanished it on a very memorable evening down in the pool about a year ago. It wasn’t the same one….hers had been well-worn and this one was new, but it could be a twin to it.
Bewildered, she called her elf, Katya. When the elf saw the red cloth in her hand and the missing stone from the grate, she grinned. But she refused to tell Morag a thing…not how it got there or why or who had done it. Her grin just got bigger. The only thing Morag could get out of her was that she had been sworn to secrecy.
Of course, Morag had already figured out who had put it there. Katya left in high spirits, and Morag swung the top of the bathing suit around one finger, thinking. She well remembered the last occasion on which she had worn the suit. It had been the first time she had been with Antonin. The time he had mentioned trying to convince a tiger into preferring the very nice and comfortable cage to life outside of the cage. She smirked to herself, knowing he’d managed to do just that. It had been the first time they had made love under the water, and he had shared his innermost thoughts with her. A very memorable evening....
The red bikini in her hand gave her an idea. Yelling for Josef, she waited impatiently for the elf to appear. When he did, she quickly explained to him what she wanted, taking a page from Antonin’s book and swearing him to secrecy, as well. After Josef was off to do what she’d asked, she called Nikita again. The elf seemed a little cranky at first, having been asked to do something and then pulled off that task right after. But once she explained what she intended, he lost some of his grumpiness. And really, the only addition she was making was that Nikita would have to keep Antonin away once Josef began his task.
And not tell him what was up, of course.
