Summary: Being apart is more difficult than usual when the Malfoy family battles sickness and obnoxious, inferior children.
Narcissa sat in a particularly solitary corner of the Malfoy library, having told the house elves to leave her alone for the day... again. Her beauty greatly diluted by stress (though still radiant, of course), the woman's hands trembled about a book she did not read. Most disturbingly of all, she had even neglected a few of her glamour charms, allowing a wrinkle or two about her eyes and mouth to remain visible. There was no energy for her extensive upkeep... not with the child around.
Faustus Snape. Most would find him a charming, well-behaved boy, but to Narcissa Malfoy, he was a hook-nosed demon sent to plague her home with his presence. Draco's threat- er, recommendation- to keep quiet about the boy's stay was wearing on her day by day. For Merlin's sake, she lived in MALFOY Manor, and Malfoys- TRUE Malfoys- associated not with traitorous filth. Normally, she would merely drown herself in shopping or travel, but the disease outside threatened even her now, and without admitting and damaging her own pride, Narcissa was afraid. Her skin was more pale than usual, knowing not the light of the outside world.
What was she becoming that she now sat alone, staying quiet about the things that were slowly breaking her insides? Since when did the wife of Lucius Malfoy submit? This would end. She would confront Severus immediately, but first...
Inside her reading material sat her locket, which she had left closed while composing herself enough to talk to the only one she desired to. His absence was what made all of this the very worst. Strangely, they had not spoken lately. Surely he was busy, and could not be bothered, but today she could not wait. Her long, pale fingers opened the jewelry, then setting it back into the book in her lap to prevent question from any unfortunate onlookers; she was merely reading.
"Lucius, my love... do tell me you have some time."
