4:04 pm - New beta reader (BtVS, Heroes, SPN, Pushing Daisies, HP, more)

caro
Hey, guys. If anyone out there is still looking for a beta reader, I'm willing to help.

Name: [info]caro
Fandom: Heroes, Chuck, BtVS/AtS, Firefly/Serenity, Dark Angel, Pushing Daisies, Moonlight, Supernatural, Alias, Wonderfalls, Felicity, Harry Potter, Veronica Mars, Star Wars, more
Rating: I'll beta anything, regardless of rating
Beta type: I'm an editor IRL, so I can help with grammar, spelling, character development, plot, pacing...any issue you have, I can deal with.
Harshness: It depends on the author's comfort level. I can be gentle or harsh. I can edit your fic the same way I edit books for publication.
Placed in Memories?: Sure.
Other notes: Ideally, I'd like to find a few people to exchange projects with on a more permanent basis. But that's not required at all--you don't have to read something of mine for me to read something of yours.

4:46 pm - Beta?

bessemerprocess
I don't know if anyone's still watching this comm, but I thought I'd take the chance.

Name: bessemerprocess
Fandom: Criminal Minds, Bones, Grey's Anatomy
Rating of story: FR-15
Beta type: I'm desperately in need of someone familiar with Criminal Minds who can tell me if everyone sounds in character and the plot makes sense.
Harshness: Medium. Tell me what's wrong, but not overly mean.
Other notes: It's a crossover, minor slash, approx. 10k words.

7:49 pm - Seeking Beta

mahoganyhandle
Name: [info]mahoganyhandle
Fandom: Harry Potter
Rating of story: R
Beta type: I'm looking for the basic beta--plot, continuity, spelling/grammar, sentence structure, characterization, and anything else that the beta might want to comment on.
Harshness: I can take any level of harshness, from super-nice to hyper-critical as long as I get (brutal) honesty.
Other notes: The story is fairly long (100k right now, with perhaps another 20k+ to go), and I lost at least one of my betas after the first chapter, so I'd really appreciate someone who's certain they'll have the time to stick with the project.

10:51 am - New Beta.

min_sora
Name: I'm [info]min_sora but call me Laura, it's easier.
Fandom: I'll take any fandom.
Rating: Any rating is fine with me.
Beta type: Spelling and flow are two areas I like to think I critique well, characterization will depend on the fandom.
Harshness: I'm fairly critical but not harsh. However, if you want me to be harsh or if you want me to be softer than usual, I'm willing to try.
Placed in Memories?: Yes.
Other notes: I'm online regularly so don't worry about not hearing from me.

delishus
Name: [info]delishus
Fandom: Stargate: Atlantis
Rating of story: G to PG
Beta type: I'm pretty much looking for a read over to make sure I haven't made any retarded grammar/spelling mistakes (I mostly spell like a Brit, FYI, I'm Kiwi myself, pls do not correct that).
Harshness: Be nice, bb, I'm lol sensitive.
Other notes: The fic is a Teyla/Sumner non-specific AU, and it's babyfic. A two page sequel to a less-than-one-page ficlet I wrote on the fly for a "Kisses" challenge a while back. I can provide you with a link to the first story, which would probably be helpful. Please somebody help me out :(

thrillkiller
Name: Red
Fandom: Original setting (Paradise City) with a smattering of Werewolf: the Apocalypse
Ratings: Rarely below PG-13, sometimes NC-17. The specific works I'm seeking review on are all pretty gory except one, though.
Beta type: Right now, I need someone into dark topics, abnormal psychology, serial killers, that sort of thing. And, preferably but not mandatory, anthros/furs (not furries; I use anthropomorphism as a personality/social construct to allow me to work with themes like racism and such WAY more honestly, without worrying about someone becoming offended.)
Harshness: As much as you can without being an outright dick. Be aware that I'll debate points I'm not sure about or disagree with, but not as a personal challenge -- it's my way of guaranteeing the best outcome, vetting both sides' thinking. But it doesn't mean I'm not listening. I need someone who's not unwilling to point out problems. Anything and everything that strikes them off. Someone who is not afraid of hurting feelings. I like to have parts I think are good confirmed to be so, but what I *need* is to know what I've done wrong. I can't improve if I don't know that. Whether spelling, phrasing, imagery, plot, concept, whatever -- if critique is needed, I want it.
Notes: I write urban fantasy and primal urges. I often paint with words more than I actually write, and I'm not very good at conscious creation when it comes to writing. Some of it is pure venting. I'm in *serious* need of an editor. And, of course, I don't do fanfiction, at least not right now, so that'll matter too. Be prepared to read about a lot of drugs, violence, and inhumanity, in a literal sense. All that said, that's not ALL I write, but that's the particular vein I seem to be in right now.

8:56 am - Biographical Beta (short piece) Needed.

cat_mcdougall
Name: [info]cat_mcdougall
Fandom: None
Rating of story: G
Beta type: Flow, mostly. And pacing. I'm not sure what's wrong with the second half, but it seems wrong and I need a fresh set of eyes and as much as I love my friends... they're too close. Also, a double checking of my grammar would be fine.
Harshness: Not overly critical, since this is supposed to be an emotional piece.
Other notes: This is a biographical piece, not fiction. It does have mentions of childbirth (but no details, it's simply in passing), and is mostly about children. It's a very personal piece, but I'm not sure it'll have the emotional impact on others that it does on me.

It's not very long. Just over two thousand words (according to OpenOffice), and I do, actually know how to use a spellchecker and some things about grammar. If someone could give me a quick beta on this single piece, I'd be appreciative.

10:57 pm - New Beta

sollie
Name: Sollie
Fandom: DC/Marvel comics (pretty much all), original fic, Final Fantasies (all), Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek (all, except Voyager and Enterprise), Firefly, Doctor Who, House
Rating: Any and all.
Beta type: Grammar/spelling/phrasing is my strong suit, but I have a pretty good grasp on characterization and continuity in my fandoms.
Harshness: Moderate, I think. Haven't had complaints.
Placed in Memories?: Sure!
Other notes: I'd be happy to go over spelling/grammar for a fic outside my fandoms, although you'd need someone else for characters. I've got no problem with any pairings.

7:48 pm - New Beta

nanatsusaya
Name: Sammy

Fandoms: Original fiction, Harry Potter, Good Omens, Angel Sanctuary, any of Kaori Yuki's other works, Bleach, InuYasha, Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Rating: G - R

Beta type: I do it all, baby. ;) I'm good at spelling and grammar, but I'm also good at catching characterization, sentence structure and continuity errors/plotholes.

Harshness: Normally, I'm... medium, I guess? Or I try to be. I like to think I'm somewhere in between really harsh and super-sweet.

Placed in Memories?: Yes!

Other Notes: I'm comfortable with whatever characters, pairings, etc., you can throw at me. I'm generally pretty good at getting things back to people on time, although sometimes if I have a lot of beta-reading (or homework), stuff can get pushed back a little.

current mood: uncomfortable

8:06 am - Offering Beta Services

ladybug218
Name: Jen [info]ladybug218
Fandom: If you're looking for basic grammar/spelling/story structure, I'll read anything. I have in depth fandom knowledge of: Angel (through S3), Buffy, Charmed, Heroes, Hex, Kelley Armstrong's "Women of the Otherworld", Oceans 11/12, Psych, RENT, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Wicked, X-Men movieverse
Rating: Anything
Beta type: I've got a good eye for grammar/spelling and I notice continuity errors, etc. I can go in depth about characterization for any of the above-listed fandoms or original stuff.
Harshness: I'll go as in depth as the writer wants. I try not to be "harsh" at all and generally make suggestions.
Placed in Memories?: Sure, why not? ;)
Other notes: I work full time and can do some beta work there (unless it's hard R or NC17). My off-work hours are somewhat sporadic for computer use, but let me know what kind of a turn-around time you're looking for and I'll get back to you ASAP. Additionally, I've beta-read full length novels for friends along with a *ton* of fanfiction. I was also a copy editor for my college newspaper once upon a time :)

thrillkiller
Name: thrillkiller
Fandom: Original settings with a smattering of Werewolf: the Apocalypse
Rating of stories: Rarely below PG-13, sometimes NC-17. Usually a light to mid-R.
Beta type: Essentially, I need someone who's not willing to point out problems.
Harshness: As much as you can without being an outright dick. Be aware that I'll debate points I'm not sure about or disagree with, but not as a personal challenge -- it's my way of guaranteeing the best outcome, vetting both sides' thinking. But it doesn't mean I'm not listening.
Other notes: I write urban fantasy and primal urges. I often paint with words more than I actually write. I'm frankly not that great. And, of course, I don't do fanfiction, so that'll matter too. Be prepared to read about a lot of drugs, violence, and inhumanity, in a literal sense.

3:15 pm - Beta Needed

stevie_andy
Name: Stevie or Andy

Fandom: Girl Got Game [Might as well make it original]

Rating of story: R (for noncon)

Beta type: Grammar, characterization (believability of the girl's trauma), and description. (I'm really lacking in describing things v.v;)

Harshness: I'm extremely accepting to harsh comments, but must be reasonable as well. I'm trying to learn/grasp the grammar after all. The characterization, be nitpicky.

Other notes: If you wish to see the story beforehand: First Chapter of the Story

This should not take more than ten chapters for the story to end and around 1,000 words a chapter. Just leave a comment here (or the story itself if you wish) when you are up for the task. =)

I’m searching for a beta for a short story tentatively titled “The Awakened Ones”. It’s about 30 pages and is a standalone (at the moment); however, I plan to expand it into a novel. I want to submit this short story for publication and wish for another set of eyes to look through it, tell me what it needs more of, etc.

The short story deals with an awakening of a group of humans due to an organization’s effects on the planet.

If you’re a qualified beta and interested, please leave your email in a comment.

Thank you!! ^___^
