Lyrra snarled again, like she might have something to say, but Fen had shoved the only good thing to cool her anger right in her face. Phinth was worried; her dragon was upset. She was reacting to Lyrra's anger, and she didn't know how to deal with the kind of violence that the green rider was producing. She was too young to understand it. Frowning, Lyrra reached for the green and wrapped their minds together, forcing herself to calm down in order to calm her dragon. She hadn't realized how much turmoil her anger had created for Phinth; she had expected her impulsive, emotional dragon to just ride the waves of her own emotions.
Fen's response to the weyrlingmaster's appearance was the only thing that drew the green rider's attention away, and Lyrra flinched a little. She could feel the tentative calm that she was trying to settle over Phinth flicker, and forced more of the feeling at the dragon. No, no. Everything is all right. I did something foolish, and Valoth's rider is angry with me, but you did not do anything wrong. Listen to Valoth, and talk with Baerth. I'm sure he is worried about you. You have been upset. Don't you want to talk with him? Maybe he'll come and cuddle with you. That's right, talk with Valoth and Baerth. Everything is okay now. We are fine, my Phinth. We are just fine.
At least Phinth was fine. From the looks of K'rin, Lyrra was not fine.
Still, she kept her place, staying silent while he spoke to T'sga and Fen; she didn't argue with their accounts. They were the truth. She had backed the stupid bronze rider into the barracks and then hit him with all her might. Her hand was already beginning to throb for it. And Fen didn't have anything to do with it; he had just shown up to stop her from going any further. And despite the nauseous feeling that the weyrlingmaster's harsh stare gave her, she didn't break eye-contact with him either.
"He deserved it," Lyrra answered, her voice tight with anger of her own. "He could have lost his own dragon during Fall, and that's his business, but he sharding near took mine. And he won't even be punished. Everyone knows it, now. Everyone's talking about it. S'bor isn't going to do a single thing to punish him, or even hold him back for more training. Getting hit by a girl is the least of what he deserves."
