Who: Cole and John
What: Learning how to fight
Where: 107
When: After this, mid-afternoon
Warnings: Guns, beer, and cursing, among others
John kicked a stray manila envelope. Its contents slid across the carpeted floor, and he stared down at the papers as though doing so would make them straighten up on their own. Of course nothing happened, so he crouched down and pushed at the papers until they were sort of in a pile. Then he pushed them under the couch he had shoved against a wall. He had spent the morning shuffling his furniture around to give himself and Cole room to practice how to not to die.
Straightening, he swept his gaze over the room. Most of the sensitive information he had was locked away. In a box. Under a floorboard he had torn up soon after moving in. The TV, which he hadn't moved, was currently hiding a hole he had carved into the wall. He needed to get that sealed up before the television stand got moved where he wanted it. But he was satisfied with the (meager) space they had, and he was satisfied with where he'd shoved all his stuff.
He checked the clock. It was mid-afternoon and he wasn't sure exactly when Cole was going to show up. They had agreed on "sometime in the afternoon" which wasn't specific at all. The guy could show up in ten minutes or an hour. Shuffling over to the computer, he sat down, figuring he could mess around there for a while until they other guy showed up. He wasn't fond of computers, never had been, but he was trying to familiarize himself with them a bit more, mostly so he could spend his time anonymously perusing the FBI's database. God, his friends in witness protection would string him up for it if they knew. But they didn't. And that was good.
He hadn't been sitting long when someone knocked at his door. He locked the computer, turned off the monitor, and went over to the door. Throwing all six deadbolts, he opened it. "You Cole?" he asked. He'd step aside when he had an answer.
