Who: James and Lily What: camping, secret-sharing (maybe) When: Thursday night [backdated] Where: the woods. Warnings: TBA Status: Incomplete
In the light of day and the fun of the woods, the nearby river and its lovely swimming hole, and Lily's company, James had managed to forget for a while that there was still unpleasantness to be discussed. Well, not unpleasantness exactly: it was only unpleasant because of the situation. He hadn't wanted to tell her this particular secret under these circumstances, but he didn't know that he had another choice. He'd been wrestling with it ever since Sirius had (very grudgingly) given him permission, torn between his loyalties to his best friend and the trust he was trying to establish with Lily.
Once they'd been quiet for a little while - only because their mouths had been preoccupied with eating sticky marshmallow and chocolate and graham cracker, and then because their bellies were full of sweet warm goodness and the campfire was so warm and pleasant to curl up beside - the thoughts he'd been putting off all day returned to James's mind. He didn't voice them just yet, though. Instead, he kissed Lily's temple, feeling the warmth of the fire on her skin.
Quietly, he asked, "Did you decide whether you're coming back to Hogwarts?" He was fairly sure the answer was no. If she'd decided to come back, he figured she would have told him. He would have heard about the agonizing process of lying to the Registration Commission and how much it had taken to swallow her pride to do it. There was still time, of course, but Lily didn't seem the type to put things off until the last minute. Unless she still hadn't decided.
