With her parents nearing retirement and spending more and more time in their "summer" home, and Sebastian almost always away on business, the house was very nearly always empty of everyone but Adele. This was not new, because it had been that way almost since she graduated Hogwarts, and it was not that she wanted for company, but with her wedding only months away and the move to Tewdric's home that would come with it, she was more aware of it than usual. Tonight, though, the elf had prepared a meal for two, with a few recommendations from Adele based on her observations about Tewdric's preferences.
She had dressed for the occasion, rather simply despite the time it had taken her to prepare, time mostly spent changing her mind about her dress and shoes than anything more complicated. She had never been much for makeup or extremely fancy hairstyles, preferring to let her blonde hair hang loose and her Smith features speak for themselves, and that had not changed since the engagement. She had noticed a trend toward darker colors and silver jewelry rather than gold, to match her ring - and it also felt rather appropriate for the web of political intrigue she was only beginning to grasp.
Which she brought up, once they had gotten through the initial niceties and wedding details, and finished their first glasses of wine. She had invited him over partially for the purpose of asking him a few questions on the subject, and didn't mind if her intentions were transparent; although she intended to handle the conversation subtly, it was not because she wanted to fool or trap him, and had no interest in being misinterpreted as such. After a brief pause which indicated their previous topic was finished, she took a sip from her wine glass and smiled at him. "I've found the papers more interesting than usual lately," she said. "My family has never been especially involved in politics - and I'm quite glad I graduated before being required to sit through school in August, much less sit through a tedious registration meeting - but political change is fascinating to observe."
