Episode 1x03: The Road Not Taken
From tv.com:
First aired: 10/17/1992 Production Code: 92108

Richie's friend dies of an overdose of a herbal drug and MacLeod suspects the source of the drug is another Immortal, Kiem Sun. Sun has has long sought to perfect such a drug and remove its lethal side effects for the betterment of mankind. But a disciple of Kiem Sun's is using the drug for his own gain, and MacLeod and Sun must track him down. When it becomes clear that Kiem Sun plans to continue his experiments despite the dangers, MacLeod destroys the remaining sample of the drug.

I think this is a better episode than previous "Family Tree". I don't know to explain yet as I tend to develop my ideas long after I watch or time has passed on an episode. I will say the fighting and swordfighting was what I expected from the show. I'll probably say more about Duncan's morals/ideas are played in this episode but not today. Though the one I am still wondering about is Richie, and if he won't stop trying to be the criminal he obviously fails at miserably. I do see the potential problem for poor Tessa or should I say the actress who plays her as I do remember her dying but I didn't understand the first time I saw this show but in these three
episodes, I'm starting to see the pattern. The two guest stars was interesting but felt to me as a backdrop to just getting to the point. I know drug references should apply in here too but as I said, later.

Onto the pictures...

Oh look, they must of had 21 Jumpstreet month, this time is Dustin Nguyen. The last time I saw him in anything recent was a few years ago with Pamela Anderson's VIP series. Well in this episode he is doing something odd. He went into a jewelry store and then a delivery guy comes in and starts freaking out but instead of helping, he timing the guy freak out. Hmm, a bank heist in progress. ...

The delivery guy and the bystanders are outside and of course cops are called. But look at the cops. ...

You want me to believe he a cop, can he see under the helmet? ...

Well, evil guy is standing in the crowd and watching ans everybody else the delivery guy freaks out and then dies on the street. Oh, the delivery guy was Richie's friend and the cop is trying to tell him he died, maybe from overdose. Richie doesn't believe it. I'm with Richie. ...

Picture of delivery guy, oh he has a name, Gary. In this Duncan sees something familiar on Gary's temples. Flashback Time. ...

That is Kiem Sun and we are in China. ...

This is Duncan MacLeod of the... well you know the rest. Still deciding of long or short hair. Pretty face, pretty smile. ...

Here Kiem Sun is telling Duncan that is still perfecting the drug that will benefit mankind. Don't all drug dealers say that? ...

Yep, I like how it helps (sarcasm). Duncan isn't so pleased with the results. ...

Back to the present and the evil guy, named Chu Lin is at the bar where he met Gary, "didn't know how to pick good friends" Gary. ...

Of course the guys at the bar are curious on why Gary's dead and if he had something to do with it so Chu Lin gives an answer to their insightful questions. ...

A scenery shot, but here Duncan gets proof from the cop that it wasn't an overdose. ...

Again with Richie trying to act thugish, okay where in the world can we believe that Richie is hard. Maybe a stale donut hard. ...

See, the guy also didn't think Richie was hard. ...

This is Angie, she seems nice she runs or works at a shelter. I have nothing for her role except she has more street smarts than Richie. ...

No reason. ...

No reason except nice Duncan framing. ...

There a whole conversation which is Duncan finding out about the drug and how it was stolen from his Kiem's student, Chu. Dun Dun dunnnn. Kiem changes in modern wear to go outside to look for Chu Lin. ...

In the meantime Richie, who was told to stay out of it when investigating with Angie and went to the bar telling her to stay outside. Here's where Angie is smarter. Richie goes in to find out about Gary and you see the reaction. Angie goes in and wave $49 dollars and she gets the info. ...

The guys at the bar who was fighting against Chu Lin are now working for him. See, Gary had sucky friends. Chu tries to gives them laced tea but before they drink Richie and Angie bust in. ...

After a scuffle between Richie/Angie and Chu/Gang, Duncan and Kiem arrive. Just showing Kiem here. ...

Before this pic Duncan fight Chu and defeats him but Kiem comes from behind and kills him. The fight wasn't that interesting though Duncan tell Kiem that you taught him some things, but Chu Lin is no longer important to the story and I'm wondering now if he ever was at all. Maybe he's just a catalyst. Kiem was playing priestly possum all these years ago but he wants to show up Duncan in his skills as a fighter so they fight. However Duncan only stopped really fighting 12 years ago while Kiem stopped over three centuries so Kiem was defeated easily. ...

Duncan gets rid of the only liquid supply, I say that because Kiem mentions it will take over 100 years to perfect it again. Which is odd since the damn thing never worked. You know if he was mortal he would of stopped and moved on to other things but he got so hung up the drug that he has tunnel-vision. You know what happens in the meantime, life. ...

Well, Kiem understands that as well because he knows stuck behind a temple for long has dull he will to fight and he's scared of dying. He wanted to drug to not really help mankind but to protect him and hope that these men on the dug would fight for him. Duncan says no. At the Gathering, you're on your own. And as for their long standing arrangement, Kiem crossed the line and so it is over. Duncan will kill him if they fight again. ...

Before this Duncan checks out the kids and i guess leave before the cops arrive. This pic Richie is showing off to Angie and then I wonder but not really why he's showing her his bosses bedroom. Bad judgment Richie. ...

Richie is caught, again. That's Richie's MO: getting caught. Didn't you know? ...

Richie and Angie leave and it ends with Tessa back from her travels, they do what they do best, paw all over each other like dogs in heat. ...
