I was surfing Ke'e yesterday, and I saw a six or seven foot black-tip reef shark in the water. I've never seen one that big. Beautiful and amazing, so of course the tourists were freaking out and they shut down the beach. The waves weren't all that bad either. Figures.

Can I just hibernate with Adam and sleep until Tuesday? I hate Labor Day Weekend.

Hey guys,
'Kani, for once, I'm glad you're not on the island right now, and Lei, I hope you can restrain yourself. That being said...
Sean's back. He arrived yesterday, and we ran into each other. No, I'm fine. I'm really good, actually. We talked, and we're going to try to give it another shot. It's going to be slow, and most likely hard, but this is what I want. You both know that I never got over him, and that I'll never stop loving him. And as much as I love the two of you, I swear...
Please try and be nice. If not nice, just...civil. We all know that Kaimi is going to be a bear about it, and if he does or says anything, I'm going to kill him. I punched him yesterday, in fact, and that was before I even knew Sean was back.
You guys are definitely my favourites out of our throng. Please don't make me hurt you. haha!
I love you both, so much.
~Kei

Well, looks like I'm going to have a lot more time on my hands now.
They SOLD Hanalei Bay Resort. I can't believe it. To some mainlander company that's going to change it and modernize it and make me want to spit on the edge of the property.
And I got laid off because of it. At least I get to keep my insurance.

Aloha Hanalei! Or really I should say 'Hola' since my beautiful wife and I are in Spain. I haven't gotten used to calling her that, and you think it would be the same waking up to her everyday since we already lived together, but it's not. This is definitely a new point in our lives. We're happy that we got to share it with you guys too. Thanks for coming to the wedding. Hope the ceremony was short enough for you and hope that you enjoyed the rocking entertainment at the wedding. Sorry for the cheesiness of the song I wrote for Lei, but did you honestly think that I was going to get through our wedding day without singing to her? We'll be back early next week. I've already missed over a week of school, and the kids have had a substitute music teacher, but I'm ready to get back into the game. See you guys soon, and Leilani and I have a huge announcement to make when we get back.
-Keith

Flowers are still romantic, right? I never know these days. What used to be romantic is now seen as cliche' and completely unromantic. Why can't things just stay consistent? Seriously.
Oh well.

As gas prices get higher and higher I find myself enjoying the fact I've never been one to drive cars more and more. Thank the Lord I can still ride a bike even with my bad knee!
Anyone around here going nuts over the gas prices?

Fourth of July is over, you bloody idiots. Stop shooting off fireworks and go back to shooting normal substances, like cocaine.
I'm sick of being kept up at night due to high pitched noises coming from down the street.

There is a great new book coming out by Gary Okihiro called, Island World: A History of Hawai'i and the United States. It sounds very interesting.
The product description states: Brilliantly mixing geology, folklore, music, cultural commentary, and history, Gary Y. Okihiro overturns the customary narrative in which the United States acts upon and dominates Hawai'i. Instead, Island World depicts the islands' press against the continent, endowing America's story with fresh meaning. Okihiro's reconsidered history reveals Hawaiians fighting in the Civil War, sailing on nineteenth-century New England ships, and living in pre-gold rush California. He points to Hawai'i's lingering effect on twentieth-century American culture--from surfboards, hula, sports, and films, to art, imagination, and racial perspectives--even as the islands themselves succumb slowly to the continental United States. In placing Hawai'i at the center of the national story, Island World rejects the premise that continents comprise "natural" states while islands are "tiny spaces," without significance, to be acted upon by continents. An astonishingly compact tour de force, this book not only revises the way we think about islands, oceans, and continents, it also recasts the way we write about space and time.
I'm excited. I'm thinking of teaching it in the fall if it's as good as predicted. I just wanted to plug it in case anyone else was interested.

To all the people that have said some version of "Just tell him already!" to me over the years. You were right, I was wrong. Leave your "I told you so!" dances here. I'm too happy to even be annoyed that I was wrong.
