Warnings: None except this doesn't necessarily make a huge amount of sense.
He wasn't even sure why Cid had brought him up here. There was no need come to Wutai, Sephiroth was at the North Crater. Meteor hung in the sky ominously and Vincent's heart was still heavy from his recent finding and subsequent loss again, of Lucrecia. That he had still failed to catch up Hojo
Standing high on Da Chao, Cid having seemingly disappeared, Vincent looked out over Wutai far below from the rarely trodden mountain path he had found himself on.
Someone approaching from behind spoke. "No matter the winds and waters rage at the earth, even through changes wrought, the earth remains firm."
Vincent looked at the small monk who had joined him on the path. "Yes, but the landscape is scarred forever."
"You believe these scars to be something to lament?"
Vincent looked at Wutai, remembering Midgar the last time he'd seen it. "Cities buried under rubble become devoid of any beauty."
"But we are not discussing the attire we place upon the earth, but the earth itself," the small monk said as they both looked over to the horizon. From their vantage point, they could see past Wutai to the plains beyond.
Vincent broke the silence. "Scars are still just that. Scars."
The monk shuffled his feet a little to turn easier. "Look on that which you stand. Look at the earth that is supporting you so you may look further afield. What do you see?"
Vincent turned to look with the monk at the mountain face behind him, the crevices, cracks and shapes that gave this part of the mountain its rugged, weather-worn surface. "Beauty," Vincent stated simply. It was the first word that came to him. This part of Da Chao had a natural, untamed beauty.
"But all it is, is a scar." The old man turned back to the mountain path and walked slowly away. "Remember, my son, even the most destructive of forces can create a thing of beauty." The monk turned his head to look at him. "At the very least, we can stand higher than we did before to see further than we could." He nodded gently, smiled and turned back down the path.
Vincent stood in silence listening as the slight breeze picked up enough to knock a loose stone onto the path. He knelt and picked it up, turning it over in his fingers. He rose suddenly to the sound of footsteps.
Cid took a drag from his cigarette, the exhaled smoke carried away by the breeze. "So, this is where'ya hiding."
Vincent walked up, placing the stone in his hand and set off down the path. "Hiding, no. Changing my view of the landscape."
Cid smiled and followed him back down.
