NAME MEANING » The origin of REVAN can perhaps be derived from the French word REVANCHE, meaning "the act of retaliating; revenge." It can also be assumed it comes from the same word with the meaning of "usually political policy, as of a nation or an ethnic group, intended to regain lost territory or standing." Both of these meanings have ties with Revan's person; on one hand, Revan could possibly be eager to enact revenge upon the Jedi Council for erasing her memories. On the other, it may be a nod to this loss, and eventual regain, of her memories. GENDER » Female. HOMEWORLD » Unknown; her "programmed" identity is from Deralia. CURRENT LOCATION » Unknown. IN-DEPTH » Revan's personality is complex, seeing as she has two very different personas living inside of her. Before she was the Dark Lord of the Sith, she was an eager Jedi Padawan, wanting nothing more than to learn all that she possibly could from her mentors. Her years at the Jedi Academy on Dantooine were spent with intense training and studying all that she could in the Jedi Archives. Her thirst for knowledge was mostly seen as nothing more than a young Padawan's eagerness to learn, and easily dismissed as such just as quick. Perhaps they viewed her as the epitome of 'There is no ignorance, there is knowledge' in the Jedi Code. There may have been others who saw the threat in her drive, but they would not voice it until it was far too late. Being the headstrong and brash woman she was, Revan moved from mentor to mentor and took their knowledge in like a sponge, desperately wanting more of what they knew. It wasn't long before she had learned all she wanted and needed to from her Masters, however, and she was quick to dismiss them. She had learned everything she could, and she had no further use for the Jedi. Revan single-handedly orchestrated the first steps of the Jedi Civil War, and led hundreds of Jedi to battle against the Mandalorian threat. In some sense, she is the reason why the Mandalorian Wars would be remembered even long after her death. As a commander of the Republic Fleet, Revan was an incredible leader and brilliant tactitioner. She was probably a bit unorthodox to many people in her ways, but she nevertheless led the Republic to many victories—she is sometimes credited as doing so on her own. She is held in high regard by many people, even her enemies, for her grace on the battlefield. Revan is known throughout the majority of Republic space as defeating Mandalore the Ultimate himself, and Yusanis of the Echani. She was as charismatic as she was inspiring, having the ability to raise the morale of her troops with not only her words, but her very presence. Revan disappeared after the war, and took her fleet deeper into space, claiming she was seeking out any other potential threats left behind by the Mandalorians; but such was not the case. When Revan reemerged, it was not as the hero of the Republic, but as the Dark Lord of the Sith. It was like Exar Kun all over again; it was the greater threat the Council had foreseen. It was no difficult task for her to draw Jedi to the dark side. In fact, it had been almost too simple. By using the Star Forge's power, she had produced a fleet of unmatched numbers and attacked the unsuspecting galaxy. Planet after planet were systematically destroyed, in an orderly fashion, of course. It was hard not to want to join the Sith; who would dare oppose their leader when she so easily conquered planets? Even after she was overthrown by her own apprentice, and former best friend, there were still those who feared the return of Darth Revan. However, after Malak's betrayal, the Jedi Council's "repogramming" of her mind, and a long journey to retrace her own steps to the Star Forge, she achieved redemption. At the end of her travels, Revan had to face Malak alone, and after a fiercesome and long battle, Revan triumphed over Malak, and pledged her allegience to the light side as he lay dying. Despite Revan's victory over the Dark side, however, it was her legacy as a Sith Lord, and not a hero of the Republic, that would be remembered for generations on end. history. HISTORY » Revan's beginning does not start like other Jedi. While others may have a home to speak of, of family to remember, and of experiences in their lives before their Jedi teaching, Revan lacked all of these. Either she does not remember her past, or she merely feels it best to keep it close to herself, there is none that know of where or who she came from. It is said that she was born somewhere in the Outer Regions, far away from Republic space, and was found by a traveling Jedi. She came to the Jedi at a young age, like they all do, and it was quickly discovered that she was the most gifted student they had at the time. Being so connected to the Force so naturally, it was only reasonable that she would pick up on all the skills she was taught with ease. She was eager to learn as she was gifted, and many welcomed her eagerness, while others silently pondered the dangers of such willingness to learn. It wasn't before long that she was ploughing through the Jedi archives and even making her way deeper into the normally restricted teachings of the Force—the Dark side, to be specific. Revan went through many mentors in her youth. Her first was recognised as Kreia, the Jedi Master who had trained many bright students similiar to Revan herself. Ultimately, however, Revan could learn no more from her, and was just as quick to leave their tutelage as she was to acquire the teachings she got from them. Eventually, she felt as if she had learned all she needed from the Jedi, and sought to plot her own course with the Force. It was at the start of the Mandalorian Wars that Revan became known as "The Revanchist," and was openly in disagreement with the Jedi Council's unwillingness to assist the worlds being ravaged by the Mandalorians. A charismatic person who was able to use the Force to manipulate others, it wasn't long before Revan had acquired a rather large following of other young Jedi who were eager to help those in need. Using her ability to make passionate speeches, and her morale-boosting words against the Jedi Order and their hesitance, Revan led those who followed her into battle, becoming their unofficial Master. As a commander of the Republic Fleet, Revan was an incredible leader and brilliant tactitioner. She was probably a bit unorthodox to many people in her ways, but she nevertheless led the Republic to many victories—she is sometimes credited as single-handedly doing so. She is held in high regard by many people, even her enemies, for her brilliance on the battlefield. Revan is known throughout the majority of Republic space as defeating Mandalore the Ultimate himself, and Yusanis of the Echani. She was as charismatic as she was beautiful, although she preferred to shadow her features with a robe or mask of some kind. Most people have never even seen her face. After the Mandalorian Wars, however, things seemed to change. Revan had taken her fleet into deep space, beyond the Republic and into unknown territories. For a long time, no one knew what had happened to the hero and her soldiers. Many began to assume she and her ship had been lost. Killed, perhaps, by lingering Mandalorians. Yet when Revan came back into the minds of many, she was not the hero that had saved their Republic from the Mandalorian threat. She was Darth Revan, the Sith Lord. Revan was more powerful than ever, her ability to draw Jedi to the Dark Side was unmatched even by Exar Kun himself. She was without mercy and she never halted in her assault upon the unsuspecting galaxy, and she single-handedly threw the Jedi Order into a civil war amongst themselves. It was master fighting apprentice all over again. It was horror for many. But it wasn't to last long for Revan. Alek, once her best friend and now her apprentice known as Darth Malak, betrayed his master and usurped the mantle of Dark Lord for himself. Revan was left for dead on her flagship, but Bastila Shan, a Jedi who had been a part of the striketeam sent aboard the ship to capture Revan, used the Force to save her life. She was taken to the Jedi Council, unconscious and her mind badly damaged from the assault, where they decided they would not kill her to keep her prisoner, but instead wipe her memory and "reprogram" her, if you will. They gave her a new identity: a young woman named Sarna Roye, born and raised on the Outer Rim world of Deralia, who became a scout later in life and is loyal to the Republic. The Dark Lord Revan was no more, and Sarna Roye was now a sort of puppet for the Jedi Council. Sarna Roye was a kind woman, although she could sometimes be brash in her ways. Never was she unnecessarily cruel or hateful, and she did all she could to help those in need. Quite the opposite of her former self. As a talented scout loyal to the Republic, she was hired as a last-minute addition to the crew of the Endar Spire, a battleship that was carrying Bastila Shan, the Jedi famous for killing Darth Malak's Sith Master. But Darth Malak was in pursuit of the Endar Spire, and he ordered the ship destroyed and Bastila captured. While the Endar Spire suffered heavy amounts of damage, Sarna made her way from the crew quarters to the Bridge with another soldier, Trask Ulgo. It wasn't until the two were about to head for the starboard section that a Dark Jedi appeared. Trask sacrificed himself, allowing Sarna to escape the Endar Spire with another Republic soldier just seconds before the ship was annihilated—Carth Onasi. On the planet below, Taris, Sarna was knocked unconscious during their crash-landing, and began to have flashbacks of her previous self before she awoke to be introduced to the man who helped save her life. The two learned that Bastila had also come to Taris, but was taken prisoner by the Black Vulkars, a swoop gang in the lower city of Taris, and was being offered up as slave in a prize for the Tarisian Season Opener. With the help of the Hidden Beks, a rival gang, a Twi'lek named Mission Vao and her Wookiee friend, Zaalbar, Carth and Sarna were able to rescue Bastila. This accomplishment drew the attention of a Mandalorian mercenary named Canderous Ordo, who was working for local crime lord Davik Kang. He proposed a rather startling offer: he would help Sarna and her friends off of Taris by assisting them in stealing Davik's fast freighter. In return, however, he wanted Sarna to break into the Sith Base and steal the launch codes so as to bypass the auto-targetting lasers. After they were able to steal those codes, Canderous took Sarna, Carth, and Bastila to Davik under the guise they were interested in working for the Exchange. After finding the security codes to get past the protection on the Ebon Hawk, Sarna and her companions killed Davik and (presumeably) Calo Nord, then took the ship and escaped Taris just as Darth Malak ordered an orbital bombardment upon the planet. Taris was destroyed, but the group had made it off safely. They headed for the Jedi Academy on Dantooine, where Sarna met with the Council. Bastila argued with the masters to have Sarna trained in the Force, but there was hesitation on their behalf for obvious reasons. In the end, they agreed, taking in Sarna and training her in the ways of the Jedi. She picked up on it quickly, as she had unknowingly known everything they were teaching her before, and it was only a matter of weeks before she went from being a mere apprentice to a Padawan learner. It was then that the Council made a strange decision. They ordered Bastila and her companions to go to the ruins on Dantooine, the same place Sarna and Bastila shared a vision of Malak and Revan, and seek out whatever it was the two found. Perhaps then, they deduced, the Jedi could discover a way to end the Sith Empire. The two Jedi did as they were told, and what they found was both surprising and disturbing. Sarna, Bastila, and Carth found a 20,000 year old droid who mentioned something called a "Star Forge". They also found a Star Map, which clearly labeled Kashyyyk, Manaan, Korriban, and Tatooine on which, the Council concluded, would lead to more Star Maps and ultimately to the Star Forge, whatever it may be. Again the Council issued a strange order: Sarna, Bastila, and their companions were to travel to all four of these worlds and seek out the Star Maps. Carth was clearly disturbed by the decision, saying that it was normal for a neophyte Padawan like Sarna, no matter how good or Force adept she may be, to be sent on such a dangerous mission. Still, they embarked on their quest for the Star Maps. Along the way, they managed to free enslaved Wookiees from Czerka Corp., send a murderer to prison, and pick up a couple of new people. Jolee Bindo, a Grey Jedi who had denied the Jedi Order years ago and had gone into self-implemented exile on Kashyyyk; and a "protocol droid" named HK-47 from Yuka Laka's droid shop on Tatooine, who turned out to have a special assassin function. With their assistance, Sarna was able to discover three more Star Maps. During their travels, however, Sarna and Carth became closer, and eventually began to fall in love. They denied their feelings, despite how strong they were. Intercepted on the hyperspace route by the Leviathan, Saul Karath's flagship, the group was captured and tortured for information. They were rescued by Juhani, however, the Jedi who Sarna had saved from the Dark Side, and Carth was able to avenge his family by killing Saul Karath, but not before revealing Sarna's real identity to Carth. Bastila persuaded Carth not to talk about it at the moment, while Sarna was still confused as to what the two were talking about. As they made their escape to the Ebon Hawk, however, they were confronted by Darth Malak himself, who ultimately revealed Sarna's true self: Darth Revan, former Dark Lord of the Sith. He used Force Statis to freeze Carth and Bastila while Revan and Malak engaged in a fierce lightsaber duel. Bastila interrupted, however, and ordered Carth to take Revan and escape while she held Malak off. Carth and Revan reluctantly did as they were told, narrowly escaping recapture as they sped off into space. It was on the Ebon Hawk that Carth urged Revan to tell the others what they had been told, and to Revan's surprise, no one seemed too troubled by it... no one except Carth, perhaps. Their relationship had been damaged, that much was certain, and the two remained rather distant from one another for quite some time. But they kept their minds focused on the matter at hand. Not only did they have to find the final Star Map, but they also had to find a way to save Bastila. It was on Korriban that they'd find their answer, as well as a surprise. While they were in the Sith Academy (it was the only way to get to the Star Map), they came across one Dustil Onasi, the son that Carth believed to be dead. With Revan's help, Carth was able to convince Dustil that the Sith were not the family he had lost on Telos, as well as begin to rekindle their relationship as father and son. It was this act that helped rebuild the bridge of trust between Carth and Revan, and would lead to the acknowledgement of their love. The final Star Map revealed that the Star Forge was near an unknown planet. Their journey to the Star Forge, however, would prove to be more complicated than they could have imagined. The Endar Spire was caught in some type of energy negation field, and a forced landing was implemented on the crew, resulting in a crash. Their hyperdrive was shot, and it was clear that they'd be stranded on the unknown planet for some time until they found a way to repair it and shut down the energy field surrounding the planet. It was here that Revan discovered she had visited this planet once before, which was home to the Rakatans, a race of people whose ancestors had constructed the Star Forge. After a great deal of convincing the Elder Rakatans that she was not here to take advantage of the Star Forge and use it against the galaxy once more, they allowed her admittance into the Temple of the Ancients. They intended for her to go alone, but Jolee Bindo and Juhani had shared a vision of something they knew Revan would not be able to handle alone. Horde after horde of Dark Jedi were crawling about the Temple, as evidence to Darth Malak's presence on the Rakatan world. Once they reached the top of the Temple, where the computer controlling the energy field was, they faced Bastila Shan, who had turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Malak's apprentice after Darth Bandon's demise at Revan's hand earlier. She attempted to make Revan reclaim her title as Dark Lord, claiming that the two of them could rule the galaxy as Master and Apprentice, like Revan and Malak had done before. But Revan resisted, thanks to Juhani and Jolee's help, and proclaimed her duty to the light. Bastila fled the Temple after a short duel with Revan and returned to the Star Forge. Once the generator was shut down, Revan, Jolee, and Juhani returned to the Ebon Hawk and related the events of what had occured to the rest of the party. At this moment, Carth and Revan accepted their love for one another, vowing to stay at eachother's side from there on in. They fixed the hyperdrive and set out to the Star Forge, where they would face an armada of Dark Jedi and a seemingly endless amount of Sith soldiers. They perservered, however, and it wasn't until they reached Bastila that Revan was seperated from Carth and Jolee (the two who had gone with her). A heated battle between dark and light ensued, but in the end, Revan rejected every offer Bastila gave to fall once more to the dark side and brought the fallen Jedi back to the light. The two then joined forces, despite Bastila's hesitation, and battled their way to Darth Malak himself. Once more, Revan had to face Malak alone, and after a fiercesome and long battle, Revan triumphed over Malak, and pledged her allegience to the light side as he lay dying. Revan became the hero of the Republic again, something that would be remembered for generations on end. But that happiness was not to stay... Little by little, the memories that the Jedi Council had taken from her were restoring themselves, and she remembered things about her past that she regretted deeply. In an attempt to redeem herself in her own eyes, Revan secretly set out on a personal mission beyond the Outer Rim of the galaxy, abandoning Carth and her friends alike as she pushed forward into deep space and sought out the origins of not only her past, but her past self's plights in the galaxy... other.
